Job summary

HDR is seeking a Freight Construction Management Field Services Representative in California to oversee field construction activities, draft daily reports, and manage project documentation on multisite projects.

The role coordinates with clients, owners, and the project team and requires strong reading of plans and quality control on materials and installations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management or rail engineering related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Technology, or combination of education and relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, and identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents.
  • Maintain accurate daily records of the contractor's daily activities and the work performed, and of the labor, equipment and materials used.
  • Assist field inspections and serve as the on-site construction observer for assigned projects.
  • Complete documentation including daily reports, project photographs, etc.
  • Assist with material submittals, field requests-for-information, and monthly construction pay application/quantity reviews, along with other related general construction management resolutions.
  • Review construction materials for contract compliance.
  • Track quantities and develop pay estimates for acceptance.
  • Attend and/or chair construction progress meetings.
  • Conduct observations of the installation and acceptance testing of completed equipment and systems.
  • Coordinate with clients/owners, project team, other consultants, and others involved with the project.
  • Identify nonconforming work, develop project punchlists and maintain until corrected.
  • Develop record documentation for engineer review/acceptance.
  • Assist with project audit/closeout.
  • Work under general supervision of a more‑senior Resident Project Representative or Design Project Manager.
  • Supervise and direct the activities of junior Resident Project Representatives and Construction Inspectors, testing services and subconsultants.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management or rail engineering related field.
  • Previous construction experience with a consulting firm.
  • Ability to interpret construction schedules.
  • Ability to problem solve and provide possible solutions to the engineer.
  • Work hours other than typical 8 to 5 may be applicable and may include weekends and/or night shifts.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License and ability to operate a vehicle day or night shifts.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Technology, or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated construction experience on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Must have a fundamental understanding of contracts and familiarity with codes and laws governing construction.
  • Must possess the ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and identify discrepancies or conflicts within documents.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Must be computer literate, experience with Microsoft Office, Primavera, or related construction packages.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Schedule: Full‑time.
