Job summary

CSX Freight Conductor role located in the United States involves safely coordinating train crews, placing rail cars, and making up/breaking down trains in yards or customer facilities. Training occurs at the Atlanta Training Center, and relocation is not offered for this posting.

Expect robust safety rules adherence and strong customer service as core duties. New hires may receive retention bonuses after the first and second years, with potential additional earnings through overtime.

Qualifications

• 18 years of age or older.
• One year of related experience.
• High School Diploma/GED.
• Ability to read and comprehend all instructions including operating rules, bulletins, regulatory documents and other written communications.
• Proficient verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with all railroad and safety rules, FRA regulations, railroad signals, and train orders.
• Be able to safely perform all job responsibilities.
• Inspect all equipment on cars prior to departures.
• Receive and transmit information by radio and telephone.
• Read and understand bulletins, work orders, and switch lists.
• Assist with coupling/uncoupling of cars, operate switches, and perform minor repairs to railcars.
• Work with customers to ensure accurate movement and placement of cars and provide customer service.
• Maintain awareness of surrounding area and suspicious activity to ensure rail safety.
• Operate locomotive equipment using remote control device.
• Understand color/hand signals and signaling systems.
• Review instructions from yardmasters and discuss with locomotive engineer.
• Other duties as assigned.
