Job summary

The Kunkel Company is seeking a Freight Broker to help manage and grow our transportation business in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, working directly with company leadership. The role focuses on moving time-sensitive produce and building carrier partnerships.

Our business is built on reliability, urgency, and strong relationships. We specialize in moving time-sensitive fresh produce and continue to expand our dedicated freight brokerage operation.

We're looking for a Freight Broker to help manage and grow our transportation business while working directly with company leadership in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

What You'll Do:

• Source and negotiate capacity with carriers and owner-operators
• Cover customer freight while maintaining service and margin expectations
• Build and manage carrier relationships
• Coordinate daily with produce buyers and freight coordinators
• Track shipments from pickup through delivery and proactively resolve issues
• Monitor market conditions and pricing trends
• Provide exceptional service to customers and carrier partners
• Help support the continued growth of Kunkel's brokerage operation

What We're Looking For:

• 2+ years of freight brokerage, carrier sales, transportation, or logistics experience
• Experience negotiating rates and working directly with carriers
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly
• Self-motivated with a strong sense of accountability
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

Preferred:

• Produce, refrigerated, or food logistics experience
• Experience managing truckload freight
• Existing carrier network and relationships

Compensation:

• Strong commission structure- total compensation target for 1st year: $100k+
• 401k
