Job summary

Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc. is seeking a Transportation/Logistics Coordinator to join our team in New York. This role links Sales, customers, carriers, and internal teams to secure capacity, negotiate rates, and track active shipments.

Responsibilities

• Source and secure qualified carriers for customer shipments based on requirements.
• Develop and maintain a reliable carrier base and onboard new providers.
• Negotiate carrier rates and service terms balancing market conditions and costs.
• Dispatch carriers and provide pickup, delivery, and special instructions.
• Track shipments end-to-end and communicate status to partners.
• Collect confirmations, POD, and freight documentation.
• Monitor carrier performance and resolve service issues promptly.
• Coordinate recovery plans and source backup capacity when needed.
• Provide market feedback and cost guidance during quoting and onboarding.
• Maintain accurate carrier, rate, and shipment data in systems.

Purpose of Position

This position serves as a key link between Sales, customers, carriers, and internal teams by securing capacity, negotiating rates, tracking and tracing active shipments, communicating service updates, and resolving transportation issues. The role will also maintain accurate shipment information within company systems and support cost, service, and carrier-performance improvement initiatives.

Accountabilities

• Support the Sales team by sourcing and securing qualified carriers for customer shipments based on service requirements, equipment needs, geography, and cost targets.
• Develop and maintain a reliable carrier base while continually prospecting and onboarding new transportation providers to support current and future customer needs.
• Negotiate carrier rates and service expectations while balancing market conditions, customer requirements, service performance, and company profitability.
• Dispatch carriers and communicate all required pickup, delivery, appointment, equipment, commodity, temperature, and customer-specific instructions.
• Track and trace active shipments from dispatch through final delivery and proactively communicate status, delays, service failures, and appointment changes to internal and external partners.
• Obtain and document pickup confirmations, transit updates, delivery confirmations, proof of delivery, and other required shipment documentation.
• Monitor carrier performance and resolve issues involving late pickups or deliveries, rejected freight, missed appointments, equipment failures, tracking failures, and other service disruptions.
• Coordinate shipment recovery plans and source replacement capacity when necessary to protect customer service and minimize operational impact.
• Provide Sales with carrier availability, market feedback, transportation costs, and operational guidance when quoting, onboarding, or expanding customer business.
• Maintain accurate carrier, rate, appointment, shipment-status, and service information within the TMS and other operational systems.
• Review and assist with transportation exceptions including detention, layovers, truck ordered not used, accessorial charges, missing paperwork, and billing discrepancies.
• Monitor key operational metrics and identify opportunities to improve carrier performance, service levels, transportation costs, process efficiency, and communication.
• Assist leadership with customer implementations, carrier initiatives, reporting, special projects, and continuous-improvement efforts as required.

Minimum Skills Required

• Strong knowledge of transportation operations, freight brokerage, carrier management, and shipment execution.
• Excellent carrier sourcing, rate negotiation, relationship-management, and customer-service skills.
• Ability to manage multiple active shipments, priorities, and service issues simultaneously with a strong sense of urgency.
• Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills with the ability to make sound independent decisions in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to provide clear, proactive updates to customers, carriers, Sales, and leadership.
• Strong attention to detail when reviewing shipment requirements, rates, appointments, carrier information, and documentation.
• Ability to analyze transportation data, carrier performance, rates, and service trends and translate findings into operational recommendations.
• Proficiency with transportation management systems, carrier tracking platforms, load boards, and customer portals.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and other business applications.

Education/Experience

*High School Diploma, plus combination of specialized training/experience in Transportation/Logistics

Preferred

*A Bachelor Degree in Transportation/Logistics (or related business field), and/or a combination of specialized training, and/or equivalent work experience.
