Job summary

Overheard New York seeks a freelance Content Creator to ideate, write, produce, and publish content that feels unmistakably “Overheard” in NYC. You will craft posts that are quick-witted, culturally plugged-in, and native to New York City, across editorial content and short-form video.

You'll collaborate with the Editor, Social Leads, and the broader team, pitching new formats and maintaining brand consistency across platforms while moving fast in a dynamic content cycle.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of experience in editorial, social content creation, media, publishing, entertainment, or a similar creative field.
• Exceptional writing skills with a comedic sensibility, able to nail Overheard's specific voice.
• Deep familiarity with New York City: neighborhoods, culture, and the conversations locals are having.
• Proven ability to ideate and execute social-first content across Instagram and TikTok.
• Comfortable shooting and editing video on iPhone or consumer-grade equipment.
• Strong understanding of meme culture and internet trends.
• Highly organized, able to manage multiple content streams and hit deadlines.
• Collaborative and communicative, excited to pitch, brainstorm, and build new formats.
• Bonus: familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, or other lightweight video editing tools.

Responsibilities

• Publish NYC Content with a consistent schedule.
• Write sharp, witty captions, headlines, copy, and scripts in Overheard voice for a NYC audience.
• Overflow-publish on city-agnostic pages to maintain pace and voice.
• Ensure posts feel platform-native and NYC-relevant.
