Job summary

LightWriter Media is seeking 2–3 epic freelance editors to join the LightWriter program, editing non-fiction books and chapters on a freelance basis.

Editors will tackle memoirs, business books, self-help, leadership and real-life stories, with five working days to turn around each chapter. Australia-based is preferable, but other locations will be considered, with competitive rates.

Qualifications

• Experience editing articles or books with a focus on story flow.
• Ability to provide constructive feedback and motivate writers.
• Able to meet five-working-day turnaround per chapter.
• Comfort with non-fiction topics including memoirs, business, self-help, leadership.

Responsibilities

• Edit books and chapters in Track Changes to improve structure and flow.
• Identify and fix narrative gaps and strengthen voice.
• Collaborate with the author as mentor and editor.
• Maintain deadlines and communicate progress.

I'm looking for 2–3 epic freelance editors to work with me to support my LightWriter authors.

At the moment, I edit every chapter of every book myself – but demand has just got too high. So, I'm looking to enlist 2–3 freelance editors to work within the LightWriter program, editing books and chapters on a freelance basis.

Who you are:

• An experienced article or book editor who can see the big picture of how stories flow. (This is about far more than picking up typos.)
• A non-judgemental, positive force for good who appreciates the emotional rollercoaster of hiring an editor – and knows how to blend constructive feedback with a pep talk.
• Super flexible. You'll have five working days to turn around each chapter I send you, so this could be a great fit if you need work that fits around your life.
• More than a line editor: You can spot structural issues, strengthen narrative flow and help position a book for maximum impact – whether it's being self-published or pitched to a publisher.

The books:

Non-fiction across a range of genres, including memoirs (with an eye to making them commercially viable), business books, self-help, real-life stories, leadership, dating and a dash of celebrity.

How we'll work together:

All writers will still have me as their main mentor and point of contact, but you'll be supporting me on the editing side – working directly in the manuscript using Track Changes to make each book shine.

• Frequency = flexible. Perfect for fitting around other side gigs, freelance work or raising tiny humans.
• Paid at competitive rates. (Because I believe in circulating wealth!)
• Australia-based is preferable, although I will consider other locations.
