Universal Standard is seeking a Freelance Assistant Technical Designer to join our ever-growing team. This project-based role will support our technical and design team in executing product development tasks, with a particular focus on fit sessions. This freelance position is hybrid, with occasional in-person participation required for scheduled fittings.

Universal Standard is seeking a Freelance Assistant Technical Designer to join our ever-growing team. This project-based role will support our technical and design team in executing product development tasks, with a particular focus on fit sessions. This freelance position is hybrid, with occasional in-person participation required for scheduled fittings.

Project Responsibilities

• Create tech packs for new development, including style information, BOM, and CADs.
• Track and prepare samples for fittings, and spec samples post-fitting.
• Participate in scheduled in-person fittings as needed for specific project milestones.
• Input fit comments, detailed corrections, updated measurements, and photos into tech packs for both plus size and straight size styles.
• Check and confirm grading ahead of production.
• Generate size charts for product launch, and enter garment measurements for 3rd party partners.
• Communicate with vendors as needed regarding fit comments and sample status.
  

Required Capabilities

• Strong understanding of garment construction and patternmaking.
• Ability to accurately spec garments with strong attention to detail.
• Proficient in Excel and Illustrator; ability to sketch and edit CADs in Illustrator is a plus.
• Excellent multi-tasking, communication, and organizational skills.
  

Ideal Background

• 1–3 years of experience in Technical Design across multiple categories.
• Experience in Plus Size design preferred.
  

Compensation and Duration

$30–$35/hour

6-month duration with potential to transition to a full-time role upon mutual agreement.
