Job summary

H&R Block is seeking an experienced Bookkeeper in Illinois to deliver accurate bookkeeping, payroll processing, and exceptional client service. The role involves posting transactions, reconciling accounts, and generating financial statements as part of supporting the Block Next initiative.

You will work with clients, suppliers, vendors, and banking contacts, striving for retention and growth while adhering to accounting principles and confidential information handling.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• National bookkeeping and payroll certifications from the National Bookkeeping Association, or the ability to successfully obtain certifications.
• 1–3 years of bookkeeping experience.
• Knowledge of bookkeeping practices and generally accepted accounting principles & procedures.
• Ability to correctly interpret and apply complete instructions, policies and regulations.
• Ability to treat confidential information with professionalism and discretion.

Responsibilities

• Post financial transactions into subsidiary books and general ledgers.
• Reconcile and balance accounts.
• Generate and analyze financial statements.
• Prepare and process payroll.
• Generate 1099s and W2s and calculate and prepare tax statements.
• Communicate with clients, client suppliers, vendors and banking contacts.
• Assist in client retention and client growth opportunities.
