Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Fractional Head of Technology based in the United States.

This executive-level contract role offers an opportunity to transform technology into a strategic business advantage within a growing solar supply chain and distribution environment. You will assess existing systems, teams, processes, and AI opportunities, then develop and execute a practical technology roadmap focused on efficiency, customer experience, and business growth. Working closely with executive leadership and the finance and operations teams, you will oversee technology priorities, external providers, budgets, and measurable outcomes. The initial 90-day engagement emphasizes targeted improvements to CRM adoption, workflow automation, data quality, and AI-enabled operational processes. You will combine hands-on technical problem-solving with strategic leadership, delegating implementation where appropriate and ensuring solutions deliver lasting business value. This remote, part-time engagement is expected to require approximately three days per week, with occasional travel and the potential for further collaboration based on results and business needs.

Accountabilities
  • Technology Strategy and Leadership: Serve as the senior technology leader, establish priorities, guide the team, oversee external providers, and take accountability for delivery and measurable business results.
  • Initial Technology Assessment: During the first 30 days, assess existing systems, processes, staffing, requirements, and ongoing projects; establish the technology roadmap, decision-making structure, budget, responsibilities, and success metrics.
  • Business Systems Optimization: Evaluate whether to improve or replace the existing CRM, define the recommended approach, and establish the associated budget, ownership, and implementation timeline.
  • Hands-On Technical Execution: Work directly with NetSuite, HubSpot, and AI tools when needed to investigate issues, test solutions, and deliver targeted improvements while delegating specialist implementation work appropriately.
  • AI and Workflow Automation: Introduce practical automation solutions, such as call screening and request-for-quotation (RFQ) intake workflows, measuring time saved, accuracy, adoption, and employee feedback while retaining human review where necessary.
  • CRM Adoption and Data Quality: Improve customer record sharing, prevent duplicate records, establish data ownership rules with sales leadership, train users, and track system adoption and data accuracy against agreed targets.
  • AI-Enabled Operational Solutions: Assess existing AI initiatives and warehouse RFQ project progress, define the scope of an initial release supporting quotation requests, forecasting, and operational handoffs, and coordinate delivery support and quality checks.
  • Workflow Standardization: Move selected RFQ processes from fragmented emails and spreadsheets into shared workflows with clear ownership, documented exceptions, and improved visibility across sales, pricing, and operations.
  • Provider and Vendor Management: Evaluate technology solutions based on business value, cost, and long-term support requirements. Manage external providers through clear work plans, responsibilities, deadlines, quality standards, and service commitments. Disclose any financial relationships with recommended providers.
  • Team Development and Resource Planning: Assess team skills and workloads, identify training and hiring needs, evaluate external support options, and present a resource plan with costs, owners, and timelines.
  • Executive and Board Reporting: Lead weekly steering meetings with the board and key executives. Maintain a concise performance dashboard covering results, spending, milestones, risks, decisions, and action owners, addressing issues and delays proactively.
  • Business Readiness and Future Handover: Recommend the next phase of technology investment and delivery, including costs and timelines. Improve customer access to project information and prepare systems, records, and support arrangements for potential buyer reviews and future ownership transitions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Deliver tested improvements within the approved scope, budget, and schedule, ensuring solutions are maintainable, appropriately supported, and usable by internal teams.
Requirements
  • Executive Technology Leadership: Experience as a Head of Technology or in an equivalent senior technology leadership role, with direct responsibility for improving business systems and delivering measurable results.
  • Business Systems Optimization: Proven success improving CRM adoption, integrating business systems, and reducing manual work within lean teams and constrained budgets.
  • Hands-On Technical Expertise: Practical experience working with NetSuite, HubSpot, and AI tools, combined with the ability to assess technical work, troubleshoot issues, and determine when to build solutions internally or engage specialists.
  • AI Implementation and Adoption: Demonstrated experience integrating AI into everyday business operations, measuring accuracy and time savings, protecting data, training employees, and supporting organizational adoption.
  • Operational and Financial Understanding: Knowledge of day-to-day business operations, forecasting, profit margins, and financial controls, with the ability to collaborate effectively with finance, sales, and operations leaders.
  • Technology and Investment Judgment: Ability to evaluate whether solutions should be purchased, customized, integrated, or built, considering business impact, implementation effort, ongoing costs, and support requirements.
  • Project and Provider Management: Experience managing external technology specialists, defining delivery expectations, monitoring quality, and ensuring projects meet agreed milestones and budgets.
  • People Leadership: Ability to assess team capabilities, develop employees, delegate effectively, identify resource gaps, and establish clear responsibilities and accountability.
  • Communication and Stakeholder Management: Strong communication and decision-making skills, with the ability to translate technical issues into practical business recommendations for executives and other stakeholders.
  • Preferred Industry Experience: Background in logistics, warehousing, distribution, supply chains, or the solar industry is an advantage.
  • Preferred Distributed-Team Experience: Experience managing remote teams or specialists based in Latin America is beneficial.
  • Preferred Transaction Readiness Experience: Familiarity with preparing systems for buyer due diligence, transferring systems to new owners, or integrating technology following an acquisition is a plus.
  • Engagement Availability: Ability to commit approximately three days per week during the initial 90-day engagement and participate in occasional travel.
  • Autonomy and Accountability: Comfortable operating within agreed budgets and decision-making limits, managing priorities independently, and reporting progress, risks, and results to executive leadership.
Benefits
  • Flexible Contract Engagement: Fractional executive role with an anticipated commitment of approximately three days per week.
  • Remote Work: Remote working arrangement with occasional travel.
  • Executive-Level Impact: Opportunity to shape technology strategy, improve business operations, and influence enterprise value in a growing supply chain business.
  • AI and Digital Transformation: Hands-on involvement in practical AI adoption, workflow automation, CRM optimization, and business systems integration.
  • Strategic Collaboration: Direct engagement with executive leadership, including the CFO, CEO, board, and operations leaders.
  • Defined Initial Engagement: An initial 90-day period with clear outcomes, performance measures, and review checkpoints.
  • Potential for Continued Work: Further engagement may be considered separately based on delivered results and evolving business needs.
  • Compensation: Fees and review checkpoints will be agreed during the engagement setup. A specific rate or total compensation range is not provided in the source description.
