Job description

Ontogen Medtech seeks a fractional Controller in Lisle, IL to oversee accounting and financial reporting for our medical device consulting business and Ontogen Manufacturing. This hands-on role will own month-end close, reconciliations, financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow forecasting, accounts payable and receivable oversight, payroll review, and coordination with our external tax accountant. The Controller will strengthen internal controls, improve project and product profitability reporting, and maintain accurate accounting across related entities and integrated MRP and QuickBooks systems.

Minimum qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance and at least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of month-end close and financial reporting
• Expert-level proficiency in QuickBooks Online, including account structure, reconciliations, payroll accounting, project reporting, and troubleshooting
• Proven experience managing accounting through material requirements planning (MRP) systems, including purchasing, inventory, work in process (WIP), finished goods, and cost of goods sold
• Proven experience implementing and maintaining MRP-QuickBooks integrations, including transaction mapping, reconciliation, and resolution of duplicate or missing transactions
• Experience building manufacturing cost models covering materials, labor, burden, scrap, outside processing, packaging, sterilization, and production volume assumptions
• Experience establishing product transfer costs and prices, distinguishing manufacturing cost, intercompany transfer price, and customer selling price, and evaluating margins
• Experience reconciling inventory and WIP to the general ledger, including client-owned or consigned materials, and analyzing actual production costs against estimates
• Experience with project-based services accounting, including time-and-materials and fixed-fee billing, project budgets, utilization, and profitability
• Strong Excel skills; ability to forecast cash flow and working capital needs and establish documented accounting processes and internal controls
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, resolve discrepancies, communicate findings to leadership, and handle confidential information with accuracy and discretion

Highly desirable

• CPA designation or prior Controller experience in a small or growing business
• Experience in medical device contract manufacturing or other regulated manufacturing environments
• Experience improving accounting systems, automating reporting, and supporting MRP implementation or migration
• Experience with multi-entity accounting, intercompany billing, shared expense and labor allocations, and combined management reporting

Work arrangement

The fractional position will support our office in Lisle, IL, with schedule and on-site availability to be determined based on business needs. Hours may fluctuate week-to-week depending on workload and reporting deadlines. As our company grows, there is opportunity for this position to take on more hours and potentially evolve into a full-time role for the right candidate.
