Job summary

Redwire Space Components, LLC in Marlborough, MA is seeking an FPGA/Hardware Engineer to collaborate with engineering and product teams on space-qualified hardware PCBs and FPGA designs for flight cameras and sensor products.

The role includes circuit design, analysis, testing, qualification, and documentation, with support for moving products from R&D to manufacturing. A Bachelor's degree plus five+ years of experience is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; five+ years of relevant design experience.
  • FPGA development experience including RTL design, timing closure, and system-level integration on new hardware platforms.
  • Experience with Xilinx Zynq / Vivado toolchain is preferred.
  • Experience with analog/digital circuit design and radiation-tolerant considerations.
  • Ability to obtain US Government DoD security clearance.

  • Learn applicable product technology, architecture, and design requirements for space-based sensor systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering and product teams to produce optimized hardware and FPGA designs for space environments.
  • Analyze and document design specifications, verification plans, and reports; perform stress and worst-case analyses including radiation effects.
  • Work with software teams to bring up and debug PCB, FPGA, and system-level designs; maintain hardware throughout development.
  • Support manufacturing transition and build of test equipment; ensure design compliance.

During that time, our innovative team has been designing and manufacturing mission-critical, high reliability optical sensors for satellites providing guidance, navigation, situational awareness, and control capabilities.

Summary

Redwire Space Components, LLC hasa current opportunity for a FPGA/Hardware Engineerlocatedat our facility in Marlborough, MA. In this role you will becollaborating with members of the engineering and productmanagement teams to develop space-qualified hardware PCBs and FPGA designs for our flight cameras, navigational sensor products, and other expanded product lines.The development includescircuitdesign, analysis, test, qualification, designdocuments,andsupporting the transition of products from R&D to manufacturing.

Responsibilities
  • Learn applicable product technology, architecture, and design requirements for space-basedsensorsystems
  • Collaborate with the larger product team to effectively produceoptimalhardwareand FPGAdesignsfor the space environment
  • Analyze and document design specifications, design verification plans and reports,parts stress analysis,worst-case analysisincludingradiation effects,and failure modes and effects analysis
  • Work with the software team to bring up and debug PCB, FPGA, and system-level designs.Maintain hardware throughout the development cycle
  • Design andsupportbuildofany special test equipment needed including interface adapters, cables, and associated commercial test support equipment
  • Conduct design verification stress testing tovalidateanalysis and design margins.Evaluate any noncompliance’s and develop solutions to bring the product into compliance
  • Develop novel system design approaches to mitigate radiation hazards toimproved sensor availabilityorextend mission life
  • Support product release cycles, including manufacturing and test
Ideal Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineeringor related field withfive or more years of relevant design experience. MSEE is a plus
  • FPGAdevelopment experience, including architecting RTL designs,writingand debugging VHDL/Verilog, performing timing closure, leading FPGAbring up, and guidingsystem levelintegration on new hardware platforms
  • Proficiencywith professional engineering tools including Altium or similar PCB design suites, Git, SPICE tools, and signal‑integrity analysis
  • Experience withSoC basedarchitectures and toolchains (e.g., Xilinx Zynq / Vivado), including synthesis, constraints, simulation, andhardware softwareinteraction
  • Experiencein analog circuit design, including amplifiers, filters, ADC/DAC interfaces, power sequencing, andmixed-signalconsiderations
  • Hands-on lab experience building prototypes, debugging complex hardware, and using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies, and other instrumentation in both manual and automated test setups
  • Experience leading designs throughthe full hardware development lifecycle: requirements, architecture, design, implementation, verification, documentation, and manufacturing release
  • Ability to obtain a US Government DoD Security Clearance
  • Some limited travel may be required
Desired Skills
  • Experiencementoringjunior engineers, contribute to design reviews, and provide technical leadership acrosscross-functionalteams
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for leading discussions, presenting technical rationale, and producing clear design documentation
  • Proficientwith Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, for documentation, analysis, and presentation of engineering work
  • Experience with engineering analysis such as worst‑case analysis, reliability/derating, parts stress, and thermal analysis
  • Experience with isolated and non‑isolated DC/DC power conversion, current/voltage monitoring, and electronic protection schemes
  • Familiarity designing for radiation environments (TID, SEE, TNID) and implementing FPGA‑based mitigation techniques
  • Experience with EMC design principles, MIL‑STD‑461 (RE/CE/RS/CS), and ESD‑robust circuit practices
  • Demonstrated ability tooperateindependently, drive technical solutions, and provide guidance across projects

Salary range:$110K/yr.- $130K/yr.

Redwire determines pay for positions using local, national, and industry-specific survey data, for our locations throughout the US. We will evaluate external equity and the cost of labor/prevailing wage index, in the relative marketplace for jobs directly comparable to jobs within our company.
For new hires, we strive to make competitive offers allowing the new employee room for future growth. Salaries will be based on the applicant’s level of experience, education, and specialized knowledge and skills. Additionally, we consider the external market rate, the amount we have budgeted internally, and internal equity within the company for the same position. An employee/candidate with a stronger skill set will be considered for higher pay.
