Job summary

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory in Menlo Park, CA, seeks a Scientific Instrumentation & Data Acquisition Engineer to support the LCLS Data System, tracing data from detectors through back-end software, firmware, and instrumentation in a high-speed environment.

The role partners with firmware, software and hardware teams to diagnose issues, design diagnostics, and implement features for next-generation data acquisition systems in a world-class scientific facility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in physics, electronics, computer science or related field with 4+ years of experience

Responsibilities

• Support deployed systems: firmware, software, hardware design; debug issues in the LCLS Data System
• Maintain and debug FPGA firmware for detector front-end and DAQ back-end
• Develop system-level diagnostics to improve stability and deploy them with engineers
• Suggest and implement firmware/software feature upgrades
• Contribute to early concept designs for large-scale diagnostics
• Lead and support detector system integration (silicon sensors, ASICs, electronics)
• Support integration/testing of components for next-gen instrumentation
• Participate in design/development/deployment of hardware/software for high-throughput data
• Mentor other software developers and engineers
• Other duties as assigned
