Job summary

Northrop Grumman in Northridge, CA, is seeking an FPGA Digital Design Engineer Level 4 to join the Advanced Weapons team for the ARRGM-ER missile program. This full-time, on-site role requires a current US Government Secret clearance and hands-on FPGA/Verilog/VHDL design experience.

You will work across the full product life cycle using model-based engineering, DevSecOps and Agile practices to deliver high-speed digital designs and ASIC/FPGA solutions that meet system requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or STEM with 8+ years of digital design & verification experience.
  • Hands-on FPGA design experience with VHDL and/or Verilog within the past 6 years.
  • Experience with AMD/Xilinx and/or Intel/Altera SoC FPGAs and EDA tools Vivado, Quartus, QuestaSim.
  • Active US Government Secret security clearance.

  • Determine design approaches and parameters.
  • Analyze equipment data, conduct experimental tests, and evaluate results.

Northrop Grumman Advanced Weapons has an opening for a FPGA Digital Design Engineer Level 4 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This role will support the ARRGM-ER missile program within the Advanced Weapons Business Unit in Northridge, CA.

This position is required to be full-time, on-site in the Northridge, CA location. No remote/telework arrangement is available for this position. Applicants must have a current US Government Secret security clearance.

In this capacity, you will utilize your working knowledge of digital signal processing and digital interfaces to work on FPGA and ASIC Design across the full product life cycle process. Through the use of Model-based Engineering, DevSecOps and Agile practices we continue to evolve how we deliver critical national defense products and capabilities for the warfighter. Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, modify and evaluate digital electronic parts, components or integrated circuitry for digital electronic equipment and other hardware systems.
  • Determine design approaches and parameters.
  • Analyze equipment to establish operating data, conduct experimental tests, and evaluate results.
  • Select components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability.
  • Review vendor capability to support product development.
  • Responsible for research, design, and development for complex high speed digital designs
  • Support the implementation of digital FPGA hardware architecture and algorithms
  • Collaborate with Systems Engineering to ensure firmware design meets system level requirements
  • Review designs and analysis
Basic Qualifications – FPGA Design Engineer 4
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or other STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline with 8+ years of digital design & verification engineering experience using industry standard simulation tools; or 6+ years with an MS degree
  • Must have hands on FPGA design experience with VHDL and/or Verilog within the past 6 years.
  • Experience with AMD/Xilinx and/or Intel/Altera SoC FPGAs. Experience with Electronic Design Automation (EDA) Tools: Vivado, Quartus, and QuestaSim.
  • Active US Government Secret security clearance
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficient in DSP algorithms and its implementation onto the FPGA using MATLAB and SimuLink.
  • Strong design skills in VHDL & Verilog.
  • Experience in FPGA physical constraints and achieving timing closure.
  • Experience in developing low-level FPGA requirements and developing verification procedures.
  • Background in RF design is a plus.
  • Experience with board or system level debug using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic and spectrum analyzers, RF signal generator, etc.
  • Generation of complex test benches in Modelsim or Questasim to support formal Verification.
  • Familiarity with the VxWorks RTOS, its architecture and development tools is a plus.
  • Expertise in high-speed FPGA implementation such as AXI, DMA, PCIe, HSSI, DDR3, Ethernet, etc.

Primary Level Salary Range: $156,400.00 - $234,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
