Job summary

Creative Financial Staffing, LLC is partnering with a major nonprofit in Columbia, MD to fill an FP&A Manager role with a clear succession path to Controller. You will oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and strategic planning while preparing to step into the Controller role within 2–3 years.

You'll engage with executive leadership, mentor staff, and drive improvements in reporting, automation, and processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field
  • CPA, CPA-track, MBA, CFA, or other advanced credentials strongly preferred
  • 5+ years of FP&A, corporate finance, or accounting experience
  • Strong budgeting, forecasting, modeling, and variance analysis
  • Nonprofit or membership-based environment experience a plus
  • Advanced Excel skills; financial statement and GAAP knowledge
  • Strong communication of financial information to varied audiences
  • Leadership, supervisory or mentoring experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process across departments
  • Develop and maintain financial models and long-range plans
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly reporting packages and executive presentations
  • Analyze membership, events, sponsorships, and program performance
  • Partner with leaders to evaluate spending, pricing, and initiatives
  • Support P&L analysis and profitability reporting for events and programs
  • Collaborate with accounting to align forecasting and reporting
  • Assist with audits and financial statement analysis
  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting, automation, and efficiency
  • Present insights to leadership and boards
  • Supervise and mentor Senior Accountant Analyst

FP&A Manager - Hybrid in Columbia, MD
Succession Opportunity to Controller/Director of Finance

CFS is partnering with a great nonprofit organization, one of the nation's largest membership associations, to identify an FP&A Manager. This is a unique opportunity for a finance professional to lead budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and strategic planning while preparing to step into the organization's Controller role within the next 2-3 years.

Working closely with the current Controller, the FP&A Manager will gain exposure to all aspects of the finance function, including financial reporting, accounting operations, audits, and leadership responsibilities. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical and FP&A skills, a solid understanding of accounting principles, and the desire to grow into a broader finance leadership position.

Key Responsibilities of the FP&A Manager:
  • Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process across all departments
  • Develop and maintain financial models, long-range plans, and revenue forecasts
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages, variance analyses, and executive presentations
  • Analyze membership, event, sponsorship, merchandise, and program performance
  • Partner with department leaders to evaluate spending, pricing, and strategic initiatives
  • Support event and program P&L analysis, profitability reporting, and financial planning
  • Collaborate closely with the accounting team to align forecasting and reporting activities
  • Assist with audit preparation, financial statement analysis, and accounting-related initiatives
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial reporting, automation, and operational efficiencies
  • Present financial insights and recommendations to leadership teams and governing boards
  • Supervise and mentor a Senior Accountant Analyst
Qualifications for the FP&A Manager:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field
    • CPA, CPA-track, MBA, CFA, or other advanced credentials strongly preferred
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in FP&A, corporate finance, accounting, or a combination of both
    • Strong budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and variance analysis experience
    • Solid understanding of financial statements and GAAP
  • Experience within a nonprofit, membership-based organization, or service-based environment is a plus
  • Advanced Excel skills required (ability to do financial modeling preferred)
  • Experience with QuickBooks Desktop or Enterprise is a plus
  • Ability to communicate financial information to both financial and non-financial audiences
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Prior leadership, supervisory, or mentoring experience preferred

Compensation & Schedule:

Salary: $105,000-$115,000

Work Schedule: This position is slated to start first week of September 2026. Hybrid in Columbia, MD Monday - Friday

  • First 90 days: 4 days in office, Friday remote
  • After onboarding: 3 days in office, 2 days remote
