Smyth Companies is seeking an FP&A Analyst to join our finance team in Mundelein, IL. This role emphasizes forward-looking financial modeling, data-driven insights, and cross-functional partnership to shape strategic growth.

You will build budgets, forecast performance, and deliver executive-level analyses to guide leadership decisions. A strong Excel/BI toolkit and ERP exposure are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related quantitative field.
• 2–5 years of FP&A or similar experience; manufacturing background preferred.
• Residence in the Minneapolis, MN or Chicago, IL metro area.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management reporting, dashboards, and executive presentations.
• Translate financial results into actionable insights for leadership.
• Build and manage annual budgets and rolling forecasts for revenue, expenses, and cash flow.
• Improve forecasting accuracy with data-driven insights and customer input.
• Analyze revenues by customer, product, and end-market perspectives.
• Measure profitability and track corrective actions (pricing, cost savings).
• Develop dynamic financial models for investments and strategic scenarios.
• Support capital allocation and potential M&A decisions.
• Own internal management reporting structure and drive BI adoption.
• Collaborate with Sales, HR, Operations and other departments.

Salary Range: $80,000.00 To $90,000.00 Annually

Smyth Companies is seeking a highly analytical and forward-thinking FP&A Analyst to join our growing finance team. This is a strategic role that partners closely with leadership to drive data-informed decision-making and shape the company’s financial future.

Unlike traditional accounting roles that focus on historical reporting, this position centers on forward-looking insights, financial modeling, and performance analysis, using critical thinking to support strategic growth initiatives.

What You'll Do

Management Reporting

• Prepare monthly reporting, dashboards and executive-level presentations
• Translate financial results into clear, actionable insights

Budgeting & Forecasting

• Build and manage annual budgets and rolling forecasts for revenue, expenses, and cash flow
• Improve forecasting accuracy through data-driven insights and incorporating customer input

Data Analysis

• Analyze Revenues using customer, products and end-markets perspectives
• Measure profitability and identify/track corrective actions (pricing and cost savings projects)
• Interpret variances of actual results versus budget, forecast and prior years
• Examine trends and performance gaps, and engage cross-functionally to identify root causes
• Develop dynamic financial models to evaluate investments, new product initiatives, and strategic "what-if" scenarios
• Support capital allocation and M&A decisions

Technology

• Take ownership of internal management reporting structure
• Drive usage of BI tools (Power BI) and adoption with other functions (Sales, Operations etc.,)
• Automate research and analysis using AI tools
• Assist with implementation of new ERP system

Business Partnership

• Collaborate with Sales, HR, Operations, and other departments
• Align departmental goals with overall financial strategy

What We're Looking For

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related quantitative field
• 2-5 years’ experience in a similar role; manufacturing industry a plus
• Must currently live in the Minneapolis, Minnesota or Chicago, Illinois greater metro area

Professional Skills

• Strong critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-finance stakeholders
• Detail-oriented with a strategic mindset

Technical Skills

• Advanced Excel expertise (Power Query, pivot tables, macros, large dataset management)
• Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle)
• Experience with BI tools such as Power BI or Tableau
• Familiarity with AI-driven forecasting and automation tools is a plus

Compensation & Growth

• Salary Range: $80,000 - $90,000 annually (depending on experience and location)
• Clear path to Senior FP&A Analyst and future FP&A leadership roles
• Professional development encouraged, including pursuit of FPAC certification
