Job summary

Weir ESCO, located in Newton, MS, seeks a maintenance technician to perform repair and relining work on ladles and vessels, including refractory duties. The role requires handling heavy equipment and operating a crane on a first shift schedule (3:00 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.) with strong safety adherence.

The successful candidate will contribute to lean initiatives, support day-to-day operations, and help sustain a world-class safety culture while collaborating with global teams.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED (required).
  • Ability to work onsite during first shift (3:00 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.).
  • Commitment to Safety, Health, and Environmental requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repair of ladles and vessels including relining AOD vessels, bottom-pour ladles, and transfer ladles.
  • Remove old refractory linings, replace burned bricks, install refractory materials, and support general refractory duties.
  • Build, press, and set up stopper rods; maintain operational buffers; assemble baskets used in ladles.
  • Prepare wet sand and mix castables for refractory applications.
  • Position vessels, ladles, and materials using overhead crane; collect and enter operational data; ensure ladles and vessels meet process and quality standards.
  • Participate in lean programs (6S, Visual Management, Kaizen) to maintain a clean, hazard-free environment.
  • Demonstrate 100% commitment to zero-harm safety culture.

What You’ll Do
  • Maintenance & Repair: Perform maintenance and repair of ladles and vessels including relining AOD vessels, bottom-pour ladles, and transfer ladles.

  • Operational Support: Position vessels, ladles, and materials using overhead crane; collect and enter operational data; ensure ladles and vessels meet process and quality standards.
  • Lean Initiatives: Participate actively in lean programs including 6S, Visual Management, and Kaizen to maintain a clean and hazard-free work environment.
  • Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world-class safety culture.
