Job summary

Weir is seeking a Production Team Member- Melting Specialist in Newton, MS to support the melting department onsite. You will rotate across roles such as AOD, EAF, Crane, Pourer, and Refractory to meet demand while ensuring safety and efficiency.

The role emphasizes accurate process records, equipment operation, and teamwork, with opportunities to train and mentor staff in a high-stakes metalworking environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate and rotate within melting department positions as needed (AOD/EAF/Crane/Pourer).
• Move loads and manage molten metal in melting/pouring bays; monitor EAF levels and cleanliness.
• Record process data accurately; report any pour issues to supervisors.
• Assist in training new hires and cross-training team members.
• Maintain housekeeping and safety standards in the melting department.

What you’ll do

• Operational Flexibility: Act as a positional floater within the Melting Department, filling in at any operator position such as AOD Operator, EAF Operator, Crane Operator, Pourer, and Refractory as demand dictates.
• Daily Operations: Move loads including ladles of molten metal through melting and pouring bays, tend to the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) ensuring proper levels, cleanliness, and consistency, and pour molten metal from ladle to molds.
• Process Management: Input and maintain accurate process and pouring records, promptly inform operators or supervisors of any unfavorable pouring conditions such as run‑outs or interrupted pours.
• Training and Support: Assist with training new hires and cross‑training team members to ensure operational readiness and flexibility.
• Housekeeping and Safety: Maintain cleanliness and safety in the melting department by shoveling waste materials and performing various tasks with mobile equipment.
• Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world‑class safety culture.

What you’ll bring

• Must‑haves: High school diploma or GED. Certification in Crane and Forklift operation through WEIR ESCO. Strong work ethic with a positive attitude and good attendance record. Ability to perform multiple roles within the melting department and maintain safety standards.
• Nice‑to‑haves: Experience or familiarity with Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) operations. Knowledge of lean initiatives such as 6S, Visual Management, and Kaizen. Previous experience in refractory work or molten metal handling. Ability to assist in training and cross‑training team members.
