Founding Software Engineer
Role details
About the role
SkyAccess operates at the frontier of private aviation, rebuilding a market hidden for decades behind brokers and phone calls. Every day, roughly 40 percent of private jets fly empty and almost no one can see it. We make it visible. Real flights, real prices, direct booking. You decide what's possible.
We're looking for a Founding Software Engineer: a 10x builder with hustle, taste and experience building consumer products. Agents can automate a lot of the manual work, so we value ownership, judgment and execution as much as technical ability. You also need deep experience with modern web technologies and infrastructure, and with using agents to ship in days what used to take months.
The vision
SkyAccess is a live marketplace for empty-leg private charter flights. Operators list the repositioning flights they already fly. Travelers book the whole aircraft at a single price, with taxes and fees shown at checkout, typically 25 to 75 percent below a comparable full charter. We sell whole aircraft, never seats, and we charge no membership fees.
Empty legs are where we start, not where we stop. Booking a private flight should be as easy as booking a hotel room, and nobody has built that layer yet. We want SkyAccess to be the place where private aviation is searched, priced and booked by travelers, brokers and operators, and more and more by AI agents acting for them. We intend to become the category-defining, unicorn-scale marketplace for private aviation.
Where we are today
This is not a pitch deck. The marketplace is live:
- Millions of dollars in private flights booked since our first booking in March 2025
- Booking volume roughly doubled year over year
- Thousands of live empty-leg flights at any moment, touching nearly 1,000 airports in close to 100 countries
- More than 800 approved charter operators, including 100+ fully integrated partners
- Hundreds of thousands of registered travelers and hundreds of booking requests every month
- Trips from short hops to six-figure intercontinental charters, with 24/7 operations coverage
What you'll build and own
You won't pick tickets off a board. You'll own product surfaces end to end. That runs from the first conversation about the problem to the moment it works in production, and you keep owning it after it ships.
- Search and inventory. A traveler asks for New York to London. We don't just look up listings. We work out which aircraft could fly that trip, including ones that need to reposition first, price every option and return results fast enough that people will wait for them. Search is a routing problem.
- Pricing. Operators give us rates, and travelers want one honest number. Between the two sits a pricing engine that turns messy real-world costs into a single, accurate price. You'll own the logic and the guardrails that keep a bad number from ever reaching a customer.
- Supply and data. Flight inventory arrives from many sources, in many formats, and the sources don't always agree. You'll build the systems that take it all in, clean it up and decide what's true, so that every flight on the site is real.
- Booking and payments. Take a selected flight to a confirmed, paid trip. This is where money moves, so it has to be right every time.
- AI agents. AI is already part of how SkyAccess runs, from helping customers book to handling work that used to be done by hand. You'll push it much further, safely, in a business where mistakes cost real money.
- Agentic commerce. We believe people will soon book expensive things by asking an AI assistant. We're building for that world now, and we plan to be the place those assistants book private aviation.
- Architecture. You'll shape how the platform grows: what gets built, what gets rebuilt and how it scales.
The stack
TypeScript end to end: React and Next.js on the front end, Node on the back end, PostgreSQL underneath, web and mobile apps, modern cloud infrastructure, and AI models in production. We ship continuously, with automated testing and verified releases.
Who we're looking for
- 5+ years shipping production software with real ownership
- Strong TypeScript, with depth in both React/Next.js and Node
- Fluency with relational databases. You can read a query plan and reason about it.
- You've operated what you built: debugged it in production, under load, and fixed it
- You make architecture decisions, write down why, and defend them without being precious
- You review code carefully and kindly
- You use AI agents to ship in days what used to take months, and you can tell when their output is wrong
- Product taste. You care how it feels to the person booking a jet at 11pm, not only whether the endpoint returns 200.
Useful, not required
- Monorepos and modern front-end tooling
- Marketplaces or travel
- Messy third-party data feeds
- AI agents in production
- Mobile apps
- Payments or pricing systems, anywhere a wrong number costs real money
How we work
We're a small, dedicated, mission-driven team and intend to stay that way. We work with urgency and intellectual honesty.
- The path from decision to production is short
- You talk directly to the people who own the business problem, including the founder
- We care whether it works in production, not whether it looked right in review
- We write things down instead of scheduling meetings, because we work across time zones
- When something breaks, we say so, fix it and make sure it can't happen again
What's in it for you
- Potential for equity. A chance to share in the upside that comes from joining before the outcome is obvious. You're not betting on a slide deck. You're joining a live marketplace with real bookings and real growth.
- Being early. A whole industry still runs on phone calls and spreadsheets, and we're replacing them with software. The engineers who join now help shape what it becomes.
- A direct line to the founder. No layers between your judgment and the roadmap.
- Scope most engineers wait a decade for. Search, pricing, payments, AI agents, data pipelines, mobile and infrastructure, all in production, all yours to push forward.
- You set the culture. You'll set the engineering bar and help choose the engineers who come after you.
- Frontier work. Agentic commerce, AI that handles real money, and live routing and pricing.
An honest note
This is not a normal job. It's a founding-level commitment, and it will be intense. The stakes are visible every day, because an aircraft is either booked or it isn't. We look for people who thrive at the frontier, who bring curiosity and conviction in equal measure, and who want their work to have demonstrable impact. If that sounds like a cost to you, this role isn't for you. If it sounds like the point, let's build together.
Location
Remote, in the United States or Latin America, with meaningful overlap with US Pacific hours.
