Job summary

Loci is seeking a founding engineer to own core ML systems end to end, from training to deployment. You will write Rust code for inference and agent workflows, manage memory and retrieval, and collaborate on model-vs-harness boundaries. Strong emphasis on practical ML judgment and scalable architecture.

You’ll work across model training, local inference, and tool integration, shaping how AI capabilities become dependable product features while maintaining reliability and performance.

Qualifications

• Broad practical ML judgment and ability to frame ambiguous product problems.
• Hands-on experience training and fine-tuning models, including data prep and evaluation.
• Strong Rust engineering skills, ownership of performance and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Train, fine-tune, and evaluate models with clear objectives and reproducible experiments.
• Build reliable Rust software for inference, agent workflows, tool execution, memory, and retrieval.
• Work with llama.cpp and related inference engines to improve performance via profiling and optimizations.
• Design the boundaries between models and harness, decide what belongs in model vs code.
