Job summary

Normal Computing is seeking a founding mechanical engineer to shape the hardware that powers our AI inference systems. You will own the electromechanical design from prototype through production, determine form factor, cooling, and serviceability, and collaborate with silicon, systems, and external partners to deliver deployable hardware.

You will define the assembly structure and BOM, validate airflow and thermals in a fully populated system, and drive bring-up in our lab.

Qualifications

  • Six+ years of experience owning accelerator or server hardware from prototype through production.
  • Strong mechanical design skills in SolidWorks, Creo, NX or similar, with FEA and DFM know-how.
  • Hands-on thermal design and validation for server or accelerator hardware.
  • Experience integrating server hardware into standard chassis and racks; understands interfaces and serviceability.
  • Ability to read schematics and collaborate with electrical engineers on power and interconnects.
  • Experience directing external design/manufacturing partners and releasing build docs.

Responsibilities

  • Own the electromechanical design of inference hardware from engineering configuration to a deployable product, including form factor and thermal envelopes.
  • Define mechanical BOM and envelope for all boards and components; pre-empt assembly, cooling, and serviceability issues.
  • Define mechanical integration of compute, host platform, networking, and power in the chassis; validate airflow/thermals with full population.
  • Set rack configurations, power distribution layouts, cabling, weight and mounting across standard/open formats.
  • Own drawing/BOM releases, manufacturability reviews, and supplier engagement; drive bring-up and validation on real hardware.
  • Lead mechanical qualification: test specs, shock, vibration, thermal cycling; coordinate safety and EMC with electrical/test labs.
