Founding Engineer – Build the Future of Concussion Care (San Francisco / In-Person)

Our client is redefining how concussions are diagnosed, treated, and recovered from—starting with youth athletes and scaling to hundreds of thousands more.

They're a venture-backed digital health startup based in San Francisco, building the first AI-powered virtual concussion clinic. By combining telehealth, personalized rehab, and intelligent care automation, they’re delivering the type of care that’s typically limited to elite clinics—at scale.

As they expand their platform and team, they're hiring a Founding Engineer to join their tight-knit, fast-moving group. This is a ground-floor opportunity to shape a product that helps people recover faster, more confidently, and with better outcomes.

About the Company

Our client operates at the intersection of digital health, AI, and care delivery, building their own full-stack platform. They've already launched with paying pilot customers and are scaling up in anticipation of the next sports season.

Their platform enables athletic trainers to conduct initial concussion evaluations, coordinate next-day appointments with specialists, and guide patients through personalized, adaptive rehab protocols—with both human and AI support.

Backed by leaders from OpenAI, FAIR, and top-tier venture funds, they're focused on solving a deeply broken part of the healthcare system with urgency, creativity, and care.

The Role

As the Founding Engineer, you’ll:

• Lead frontend development across web-based experiences using Next.js, TypeScript, and Tailwind.
• Work closely with the CTO to expand the platform’s feature set across both clinician and patient interfaces.
• Build for accessibility, including screen-free voice agent experiences for patients with light sensitivity.
• Contribute across the stack, helping define systems, architecture, and APIs.
• Prioritize HIPAA compliance and help the company scale securely as they grow.
• Co-create the engineering culture, tech roadmap, and processes from the ground up.
• Frontend: Next.js, TypeScript, TailwindCSS
• AI/UX: LLM-powered care tooling and voice-first agents
• Security: SOC2 + HIPAA compliance in motion
• You’ve built and shipped production software used by real users
• You love crafting beautiful, functional, and intuitive UI experiences
• You’re excited about AI’s potential in care delivery—and want to help shape it responsibly
• You’re comfortable navigating compliance-heavy environments (healthcare, fintech, defense)
• You thrive in fast-paced, early-stage settings where speed and quality matter equally
• You can work autonomously and figure things out—no hand-holding needed
• A personal connection to the problem we’re solving—whether through lived experience, caregiving, or simply a passion for improving neurological care

The team works out of an SF-based office (Mission District) and values in-person collaboration. Relocation support is available.

• Equity: 0.5% – 1% (based on experience and preference for equity/salary mix)
