David Joseph & Company is seeking a Founding Engineer in San Francisco, on-site, full-time. You will own the entire technical surface alongside the technical co-founder, building front end, back end, and cloud infrastructure, and helping shape the product as the company grows.

This first engineering hire offers genuine ownership, the chance to ship integrated EMR workflows, connect referrals to urgent care and specialists, and to impact a healthcare startup at its earliest stage with equity.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of software engineering experience
• Strong Python with production backend experience, plus front-end and cloud comfort across the full stack
• Track record of taking a product or project from zero to one with end-to-end accountability
• Undergraduate degree from a U.S. university
• Authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship
• Able to work on-site in San Francisco five days a week at startup intensity

Responsibilities

About the Company

Our client is an early-stage (pre-seed) healthcare AI company building referral infrastructure that helps patients move from a primary or urgent care visit to the right specialist quickly and seamlessly. Their platform is already live across dozens of urgent care locations and piloting with a major U.S. health system, with deep EMR integration at the core of the product. It's a small, fast-moving founding team taking on a long-standing gap in coordinated patient referrals.

The Role

This is our client's first engineering hire — a full-stack founding engineer who will own the entire technical surface alongside the technical co-founder, building and shipping across front end, back end, and cloud infrastructure while helping shape product direction as the company grows.

What you'll be doing

• Own the full technical stack end to end — front end, back end, and cloud infrastructure.
• Design and ship EMR integrations connecting the referral platform to urgent care, ER, and specialist workflows.
• Build and refine the core referral flow so patients are routed to the right specialist quickly and reliably.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of software engineering experience (standout candidates with a little less will be considered; typically not a fit beyond roughly seven years)
• Strong Python with production backend experience, plus front-end and cloud comfort across the full stack
• A track record of taking a product or project from zero to one with end-to‑end accountability
• Undergraduate degree from a U.S. university
• Authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship
• Able to work on-site in San Francisco five days a week at startup intensity
