Job summary

Noto is seeking a founding design engineer in New York City to own how the product looks, works, and reads. You will define the design foundation and deliver an intuitive, delightful experience across the product, combining design, engineering, and strong product judgment.

With six hours of user activity daily, you’ll shape the user flows, write the UI copy, and craft cohesive interfaces or back‑end data interactions, guiding the product from first sketch to shipped work.

Qualifications

• Four or more years designing and building software products.
• Full‑stack ability with React, Next.js, Node, and Postgres; able to use AI to ship features end to end.
• Product judgment to simplify messy workflows and explain decisions.
• Care for labels, error messages, and copy; attention to small details.
• Comfort with ambiguity and unstructured customer input.
• Bonus: first or sole designer at a company or experience with complex operational software such as scheduling, billing, or admin tools.
• Interest in helping education businesses thrive

Responsibilities

• Own the design of the entire product—from layouts and workflows to the words on every screen.
• Design and build your own projects end to end, from the UI to the database.
• Set the quality bar for design and shape other engineers’ work from early scoping through final polish.
• Identify moments that confuse or slow down customers and redesign solutions.
• Establish components, patterns, and copy standards for the team.
