Job summary

University of Rhode Island seeks a highly accomplished academic leader to serve as Founding Dean of its new School of Medicine, Rhode Island's first public medical school. This leader will design, launch, and oversee the school, shaping accreditation, curriculum, and partnerships with clinical entities and the community.

The Dean will guide faculty recruitment, educational innovation, and research strategy while building robust philanthropic support and collaborations across URI and statewide

Qualifications

• Distinguished record of achievement in academic medicine.
• MD or MD/PhD with qualifications for appointment as a tenured full professor.
• Leadership experience within an LCME-accredited medical school or academic health system.
• Experience advancing medical education, building academic–clinical partnerships, recruiting and developing faculty, and leading large-scale institutional initiatives.
• Experience with new program development, accreditation processes, physician workforce initiatives, community engagement, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Design, launch, and lead URI's first public medical school.
• Build and nurture clinical partnerships and interdisciplinary collaborations across the university and state.
• Lead accreditation efforts, curriculum design, faculty recruitment, and research strategy.
• Drive fundraising and development initiatives to secure philanthropic resources for growth and priorities.
