Job summary

Outtake, based in New York City, seeks a Founding Applied Data Scientist to build the data foundation for product, business, and AI systems. You will translate messy product usage, outcomes, and model behavior into clear decisions and durable analytics.

You will shape the semantic layer, define canonical metrics, and influence product pricing, packaging, and priorities as Outtake scales. This is a foundational, high-ownership role in a fast-moving startup.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in engineering, analytics engineering, data science, or related role.
• Strong SQL skills with production experience in Postgres or similar systems.
• Experience building reliable data pipelines, data models, and semantic layers; analytics infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Own analytical data pipeline and infrastructure across product, business, and AI performance data.
• Define and maintain the semantic layer in product analytics, including models.
• Build canonical performance metrics for product, business, activation, usage, retention, and profitability.
• Collaborate with Product and Finance to refine pricing models and packaging.
• Work with engineering on AI performance metrics, evals, observability, and reliability reporting.
• Design dashboards and decision-support systems for fast, high-confidence decisions.
• Translate questions into rigorous analyses and practical recommendations.
• Help hire, onboard, and scale Outtake’s Data Team and roadmap.
