Job summary

Outtake in New York is seeking a Founding Applied Data Scientist to define how Outtake understands, measures, and improves the performance of our product, business, and AI systems. At a high level, this person will build the data foundation that turns messy product usage, customer outcomes, model behavior, and business operations into clear decisions and durable systems.

Our product operates in a noisy, adversarial, fast-moving threat landscape.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in Engineer/Analytics Engineer/Data Scientist roles.
• Strong SQL production experience (Postgres).
• Experience building data pipelines, data models, semantic layers.
• Experience defining product and business metrics from first principles.
• Experience with AI eval frameworks and model performance measurement.
• Strong product judgment and cross-functional collaboration.
• Ability to communicate complex analyses clearly.
• High ownership and bias toward action in a fast-moving environment.
• Desire to build foundational systems and scale a data function.

Responsibilities

• Own analytical data pipeline and infrastructure across product, business, and AI data.
• Define and maintain the semantic layer in the product analytics stack.
• Build canonical performance metrics for product and business metrics.
• Partner with Product and Finance to refine pricing models and profitability.
• Work with Platform Engineering on AI performance metrics and observability.
• Design dashboards and decision-support systems for fast, confident decisions.
• Build data quality checks and documentation for trustworthy data.
• Translate ambiguous questions into rigorous analyses and recommendations.
• Hire and onboard Outtake’s Data Team and set the long-term data roadmap.
