Job description

The Early Childhood Mental Health (ECMH) Practitioner provides relationship-based, trauma-informed consultation to early childhood programs, partnering with caregivers, including early childhood professionals and parents, to support social-emotional development and wellbeing. This role also supports access to services by responding to inquiries, providing brief consultation, and connecting families and providers with appropriate resources and supports. Provides early childhood mental health consultation (ECMHC) services at early childhood education sites, including child-, classroom-, and program-level consultations using relationship-based, trauma-informed, and reflective practices.

  • Partners with early childhood educators and program leadership to support positive adult and child interactions and developmentally appropriate, inclusive practices.
  • Engages in observation, reflection, and collaborative goal-setting with caregivers, including early childhood professionals and parents, to support social-emotional development and overall wellbeing.
  • Models responsive strategies that promote emotional regulation, resilience, and supportive learning environments for young children.
  • Responds to inquiries from caregivers and early childhood professionals, providing guidance, psychoeducation, and support related to young children’s social, emotional, and behavioral development.
  • Triages support line requests and determines appropriate next steps, including consultation, referral, or connection to community-based services.
  • Provides brief, relationship-based consultation and short-term support to families and providers through the support line and as appropriate.
  • Coordinates referrals and ensures continuity of care through communication with internal teams and community partners.
  • Participates in reflective supervision to strengthen consultation skills and ensure alignment with early childhood mental health best practices.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation of consultation activities, support interactions, and service outcomes in alignment with program, state, and organizational requirements.
