Job Summary

The Assistant General Superintendent supports the General Superintendent in overseeing and managing daily field operations, ensuring that work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, budgets, and schedules. The assistant collaborates closely with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and field crews to maintain quality standards, enforce safety protocols, and complete projects on time.

Responsibilities
  • Safety – Actively participates in all safety training sessions, identifies training opportunities, develops and delivers safety content, observes employees, enforces company safety policies and OSHA regulations, and reports safety issues.
  • Quality – Participates in bidding and preconstruction processes, maintains knowledge of local, county, and state rules, ensures work follows specified quality standards, inspects field work and materials for compliance, and reviews assemblies before work starts.
  • Efficiency – Supports the General Superintendent in identifying efficiency opportunities, controls costs by optimizing manpower, equipment, and materials, uses HCSS Heavy Job Software to determine cost‑effective standards, coordinates day‑to‑day field operations, schedules labor resources, and manages subcontractor communications.
  • Leadership – Instructs Superintendents, obtains proper authorizations for extras and change orders, monitors change orders, creates and communicates workforce schedules, tracks project budgets, manages field personnel fairly, addresses performance issues, completes daily performance reports, oversees team dynamics, supports training, and participates in project meetings.
  • Acts as liaison between clients, project managers, and superintendents; participates in activities necessary to close each job appropriately.
Qualifications
  • Experience – Minimum of five years as a Superintendent overseeing construction projects.
  • Certifications – HAZWOPER, OSHA 10‑Hour and 30‑Hour, Pipelayer’s Card, Excavation Safety Training, Confined Space Entry, Blueprint Reading, CPR, and First Aid certifications (or ability to obtain).
  • Technical Proficiency – Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and iPad/iPhone applications.
  • Analytical Skills – Ability to read, interpret, and analyze policies, reports, construction plans, specifications, and legal documents.
  • Project Coordination – Strong communication to coordinate project needs effectively.
  • Communication – Excellent verbal and written skills to interact with employees and clients, and to respond to inquiries and complaints.
  • Public Speaking & Presentation – Strong interpersonal skills to address individuals and large groups, including top management.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of HCSS Software Suites, PlanGrid, and Power BI.
Physical Demands

Frequent lifting or moving up to 50 pounds, repetitive motions such as typing, writing, or using construction technology, ability to sit, stand, walk, and move around construction sites for extended periods, frequent climbing of stairs, ladders, and scaffolding, exposure to moving machinery, loud noises, odors, dust, and environmental conditions. Reasonable accommodations may be provided.

Work Environment

Employees work on construction sites exposed to variable weather, terrain, dust, and machinery, wearing PPE including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, steel‑toed boots, and high‑visibility vests. Work involves communication with employees and clients, maintaining accuracy under safety protocols.

Benefits

Base compensation: $90,000 – $135,000, varying by location and experience.
