Job summary

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is seeking a Director/Manager of Foundation Relations to lead the Berkeley Lab Foundation’s fundraising efforts, building a strong pipeline of foundation and institutional supporters for science-driven initiatives.

You’ll partner with lab leadership to craft compelling proposals, nurture donor relationships, and ensure compliance with DOE, UC, and IRS requirements while coordinating with legal and operations teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of progressive fundraising experience, with success securing foundation/corporate grants.
• Experience growing a foundation or institutional giving program.
• Track record of securing grants in five- to six-figure ranges; $1M+ awards preferred.
• Ability to manage the full donor development cycle—from identification to stewardship.
• Excellent written and verbal communication translating complex science for funders.

Responsibilities

• Translate research priorities into fundable cases for foundation/institutional funders.
• Surface cross-disciplinary funding opportunities across the Lab.
• Draft proposals, LOIs, and stewardship reports.
• Collaborate with contracts, finance, and operations to manage funds.
• Build and manage donor engagement activities and relationships.
• Ensure compliance with DOE/UC/IRS regulations in gift and grant agreements.
• Travel occasionally for donor events and engagements.
