Job summary

Washington Humane Society is seeking a Foster Program Coordinator to oversee our foster care operations, recruit and train caregivers, and coordinate animal placements.

You will work with medical and behavior teams to ensure positive outcomes, manage communications, and track program metrics and records.

This role requires compassion for animals, strong organizational skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment in DC.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years in animal shelter work, volunteer coordination, or customer service.
  • Ability to handle animals and learn shelter procedures.
  • Strong communication and customer-service orientation.
  • Calm under pressure in fast-paced environments.
  • Excellent organization and time management.
  • Team player who can work independently.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and shelter databases.

Responsibilities

  • Foster placement and coordination with appropriate homes.
  • Recruit, screen, and onboard new Foster Caregivers.
  • Support foster families with communication and resources.
  • Coordinate with veterinary, behavior, and adoption teams.
  • Track program metrics and contribute to reports.
  • Draft biweekly communications for volunteers.
