Job summary

OhioGuidestone is seeking a full-time Adoption Assessor to advance foster care initiatives. You will conduct home studies, interview families, gather and verify documents, and prepare formal reports for supervision.

The role involves driving to placements, maintaining confidentiality, and meeting deadlines. Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s in Social Work or Counseling; Ohio licensure is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or Counseling required.
• Ohio LSW or LPC preferred, not required.
• Certified Adoption Assessor highly preferred.
• Experience with completing home study in SACWIS, preferred.
• Must have a valid Ohio Driver’s License with a safe driving record and valid insurance.
• Ability to take and pass a physical exam, tuberculosis test, and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Interviews all family members during the home study process and secures documents (medical statements, fire inspections, background checks, income statements, marriage certificates, well water tests, safety audits).
• Assist adop­tion applicants in collecting supplemental information forms, adoptee’s forms and vital statistics forms.
• Organizes information and writes home studies based on observations and documents.
• Complete at least 2 home studies per month and submit within 90 days from first assignment.
• Complete recertifications based on expiration dates and possible 30‑day reassessments.
• Audit Foster Parent Files and maintain attendance and schedule.
• May plan events or projects and adapt to changing program needs.

Through our treatment and medically fragile foster care programs, we offer placement for children who need a loving, safe home. Our foster caregivers receive extensive training and support and are licensed by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. This full-time role includes securing all necessary documents, submitting home studies, interviewing families, conducting assessments and any corresponding function completed as a foster care and adoption assessor. Having your adoption assessor certification is highly preferred. Be the change in your community!

Essential Functions:

• Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
• May be involved in the planning, organization, and implementation of special events or department specific projects or seasonal program changes.
• Exhibit positivity, flexibility and a willingness to take on new responsibilities as requested or required.
• Demonstrate positive leadership, promote a team-based work environment and present the agency in the most positive light with all internal and external contacts.

Performance/Physical Requirements:

• Work is performed in the office/home/community. This could involve extensive driving.
• English reading and writing skills required
• Interacts verbally with coworkers, representatives from outside agencies, school personnel, & families/care givers.
• Attention to detail and confidentiality required.
• Works flexible hours which could involve some evenings and/or weekends.
• Ability to manage own time and schedule.
• Requires typing and computer competency, including Windows applications for moderate levels of typing (case notes and other paper work).
