Job summary

Synechron is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer in Charlotte, NC to design and deliver Java-based solutions and apply AI-assisted tools like Devin AI and Claude Code to accelerate delivery. We are seeking a highly experienced Forward Deployed Engineer with strong expertise in Java-based software engineering and hands-on experience with AI-powered development tools such as Devin AI and Claude Code.

In this role, candidate will work closely with customers, product teams, architects, and engineering organizations to understand complex business challenges, design scalable solutions, and rapidly deploy production-grade applications. The ideal candidate is comfortable operating in ambiguous environments, engaging directly with stakeholders, and moving seamlessly between architecture, coding, debugging, integration, and delivery.

Additional Information*

The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Charlotte, NC is $120k - $130k/year & benefits (see below).

The Role

Responsibilities:

• Work directly with customers and internal stakeholders to understand business requirements, technical challenges, and desired outcomes.
• Design and implement scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions using Java and the broader Java ecosystem.
• Build prototypes, proof-of-concepts, integrations, and production-ready applications in fast-paced environments.
• Lead technical discovery sessions, solution design discussions, architecture reviews, and implementation workshops.
• Translate customer requirements into technical designs, development plans, and executable deliverables.
• Develop backend services, APIs, microservices, integrations, and distributed systems.
• Use Devin AI, Claude Code, and other AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity, accelerate delivery, and automate repetitive development tasks.
• Effectively prompt, guide, review, test, and validate AI-generated code.
• Establish engineering guardrails for AI-assisted development, including code quality, security, testing, maintainability, and compliance.
• Troubleshoot complex production and integration issues across application, infrastructure, and data layers.
• Collaborate with DevOps, cloud, security, data, product, and customer engineering teams.
• Deploy and support solutions in cloud and customer environments.
• Create technical documentation, architecture diagrams, implementation guides, and operational runbooks.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to best practices around modern software development and AI-enabled engineering.
• Act as a trusted technical advisor and represent the organization in customer-facing engagements.

Requirements:

• Professional software engineering experience.
• Strong hands-on programming experience with Java, including Java 8+ and modern Java features.
• Strong knowledge of Spring Boot, Spring Framework, REST APIs, microservices, and enterprise application development.
• Experience designing and developing scalable, high-performance, distributed systems.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented design, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, concurrency, and system design.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, MongoDB, or equivalent.
• Experience developing and integrating RESTful APIs, event-driven systems, and third-party services.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Strong experience with CI/CD, Git, automated testing, containerization, and deployment automation.
• Practical experience using Devin AI for software development, debugging, code generation, task execution, or engineering workflows.
• Practical experience using Claude Code for code generation, refactoring, testing, repository analysis, debugging, and developer productivity.
• Ability to review and validate AI-generated code for correctness, security, performance, and maintainability.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work independently and effectively in dynamic, customer-facing environments.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.

Preferred, but not required:

• Experience working directly with enterprise customers or cross-functional business teams.
• Experience with AI/ML applications, generative AI, LLM integrations, or AI-enabled engineering platforms.
• Familiarity with APIs and frameworks from leading LLM providers, including Anthropic, OpenAI, or equivalent.
• Experience with prompt engineering, agentic workflows, tool use, retrieval-augmented generation, or AI orchestration.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Helm, and cloud-native architecture.
• Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, or other messaging and event-streaming platforms.
• Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Datadog, or OpenTelemetry.
