Job summary

Empirical Security is seeking a Forward Deployed Data Scientist to build and operationalize vulnerability models across cloud, appsec and traditional environments. You will collaborate with customers and engineering to ensure scalable ingestion pipelines and actionable analytics.

You’ll lead data discovery, normalization, and validation while translating client needs into concrete data workflows and runbooks. A strong security data background and customer-facing skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Baseline engineering hygiene: Python/SQL comfort, APIs, data formats, Git/version control, reliability and secure data handling.
• Enterprise security engineering/architecture fluency and integration into real-world environments.
• Exposure and vulnerability management expertise and prioritization workflows.
• Security data integration and normalization, including mapping and onboarding priorities.
• Strong customer-facing technical communication and workshop facilitation.
• Working knowledge of security telemetry and systems (e.g., vulnerability scanners, EDR, IAM, CMDB).
• Pragmatic analytics: basic statistics, exploratory analysis, and validating model outputs.
• Technical collaboration translating customer needs into pipeline requirements.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with customers and teams to operationalize vulnerability models for scalability and reliability.
• Prioritize and discover security data sources, evaluating feasibility, value, and effort.
• Ensure data supports actionable use cases like attack surface reduction and remediation workflows.
• Partner with engineering to design and validate ingestion pipelines (APIs, exports, streaming/batch).
• Diagnose data issues and quantify impact, recommending remediation steps to customers and teams.
• Create and maintain technical documentation: integration guides, data dictionaries, checklists, and runbooks.
• Collect, clean, explore, analyze, and normalize security data sources.
• Stay current on exposure-management practices and vendor ecosystem to guide integrations.
