Job summary

Job description

Forward Deployed Engineer (C++/Python), San Francisco with travel (up to 50% across US & Europe), Between $100-160K base + equity. Will consider intership/recent graduate experience through to mid-level.

Forward Deployed Software Engineer sought for a fast-growing defence technology company developing visual positioning and edge navigation systems that enable autonomous flight in contested, GPS-denied environments. This is an opportunity for a high-ownership engineer to take software off the bench and deploy it into operational field environments across the US & Europe. Sitting at the intersection of software engineering, hardware integration, and field testing, you will work directly with operators, autopilots, onboard compute, and edge hardware to get real-time systems integrated and flying. Working alongside an elite, close-knit engineering team, you will move rapidly between writing production code, field debugging, and translating real-world operational feedback into product improvements.

This is a role for an adventurous engineer with a strong bias for action who thrives under real-world constraints, enjoys working close to hardware, and wants their software to have an immediate, tangible impact in critical situations.

Paying between $100-160,000 base + equity + unlimited PTO.

What you'll do

• Own end-to-end deployment of production software onto edge compute and autonomous flight hardware in active operational environments

• Rapidly translate field feedback into code fixes, performance optimizations, and feature enhancements
• Travel up to 50% internationally and domestically to lead technical integrations and field deployments

You'll likely have:

• Strong academic background in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline
• Open to range of experience levels - from high-calibre recent graduates to mid-level software engineers
• Solid software engineering foundations with strong hands-on C++ (essential) and Python skills
• Proficiency with Linux environments, edge compute platforms, and software-hardware interfaces
• Rapid diagnostic and debugging skills across complex codebases and live systems
• A high-ownership, bias-for-action mindset with comfort working directly with end-users in fast-moving environments

Nice to have:

Experience with ArduPilot, PX4, MAVLink, companion computers, UAV software, telemetry links, or dual-use/defense technology platforms.
