Job summary

VC5 Consulting seeks a hands-on Forward Deployed AI Engineer to embed with commercial teams in Houston, delivering agentic tools from prototype to production. You will own technical design, requirements, and delivery, feeding back to foundational engineering to ensure usable solutions.

The role requires 3+ years in AI/software engineering, fluency in Python, and experience with LangChain/LlamaIndex and AWS.

Qualifications

• Degree in computer science, statistics, mathematics, data science, or related quantitative field.
• Proficiency in Python for applied AI with solid software engineering practices (version control, testing, code reviews).
• 3+ years of hands-on software/AI engineering experience.
• Practical knowledge of generative AI, prompt engineering, RAG, tool use, and responsible AI.
• Experience with GenAI orchestration frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex) and cloud platforms (AWS).

Responsibilities

• Embed with commercial teams to understand workflows and identify high-value AI opportunities.
• Translate business problems into technical requirements and delivery plans for agentic tools.
• Extend GenAI platform with new integrations, data connectors, and domain-specific skills.

• Demonstrate capabilities and limitations to traders and management; participate in design reviews.

Job description

This role is a hands-on Forward Deployed AI Engineer sitting with commercial users to ship agentic tools that solve real workflow problems. You will own technical design and delivery from prototype to production, and feed clear requirements back to foundational engineering teams so that what gets built actually gets used.

Key Responsibilities:

• Embed with commercial teams to understand workflows, constraints, and business objectives, and identify high-value opportunities for AI solutions.
• Translate business problems into technical requirements, solution designs, and delivery plans for agentic tools.
• Extend the internal GenAI platform through new integrations, data connectors, MCP servers, tool-calling, and domain-specific skills.
• Apply LLMs, RAG, NLP, time-series forecasting, and optimization to pricing, supply and demand signals, trade flow analysis, and operational problems.
• Communicate requirements, constraints, and reusable patterns back to foundational AI and platform engineering teams.
• Present capabilities, assumptions, and limitations clearly to traders and senior management, and raise the bar through code review, evaluation design, and mentoring.

Required Qualifications:

• Degree in computer science, statistics, mathematics, data science, or a related quantitative field.
• Fluency in Python for applied AI and engineering, with strong software engineering practices including version control, testing, and code review.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in software engineering, AI engineering, machine learning, data science, or a related hands-on technical role.
• Practical understanding of generative AI, including prompt engineering, RAG, tool use, agentic workflows, model evaluation, and responsible AI.
• Proficiency with modern GenAI orchestration frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, or equivalent, and experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
• Excellent written and verbal communication with both technical teams and commercial stakeholders.

• Schedule: Monday-Friday, in-office 5 days a week
