Job summary

Actalent in Eugene, Oregon is seeking a Formulation Technician I to support the manufacture of diagnostic and laboratory products in a controlled environment. You will prepare reagents, buffers, dyes, and solutions with precise measurements and contribute to production, quality, and inventory activities while adhering to SOPs and safety guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Experience with inventory and production records is a plus.
  • Must work safely with biological and chemical materials.
  • Ability to operate spectrophotometers, pH meters, balances, and pipettes.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and dispense reagents, buffers, dyes, and solutions with precise measurements.
  • Operate lab equipment (UV-Vis, pH meters, balances, pipettes) following procedures.
  • Perform manufacturing activities using aseptic technique and approved SOPs.
  • Complete batch records and production documentation accurately and timely.
  • Maintain inventories of materials and finished products to support production.
  • Support filling, labeling, packaging, and processing as needed.
  • Monitor processes for quality or production concerns and take action.
  • Troubleshoot routine issues and escalate complex concerns when needed.
  • Follow safety, quality, and SOPs; work with cross-functional teams.
  • Prioritize tasks, manage time, and adapt to schedules while ensuring quality.

Job Title: Formulation Technician I

Job Description

The Formulation Technician I supports the manufacture of high-quality diagnostic and laboratory products in a controlled environment. This hands-on role focuses on preparing reagents, buffers, dyes, and solutions while contributing to production, quality, and inventory activities. The position requires precise measurements and calculations, strict adherence to written procedures, and safe handling of biological and chemical materials. The successful candidate brings strong attention to detail, a process-oriented mindset, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and dispense biological reagents, dyes, buffers, and laboratory solutions using accurate weighing, pipetting, dilution, mixing, and pH adjustment techniques.

  • Operate laboratory equipment, including UV-Vis spectrophotometers, pH meters, balances, and pipettes, in accordance with established procedures.

  • Perform manufacturing activities using aseptic technique while adhering to approved procedures and safety requirements.

  • Complete batch records, production documentation, and other records accurately and in a timely manner.

  • Maintain inventories of raw materials, work-in-process materials, and finished products to support continuous production.

  • Support filling, labeling, packaging, and processing activities for finished products as needed.

  • Monitor processes to identify potential quality or production concerns and take appropriate action.

  • Troubleshoot routine manufacturing and laboratory issues and escalate complex concerns when appropriate.

  • Follow established safety, quality, and standard operating procedures at all times.

  • Work collaboratively with Manufacturing, Quality, and other functional teams to support overall business objectives.

  • Prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing production schedules while maintaining high quality standards.

Essential Skills

  • Experience preparing reagents, buffers, dyes, and laboratory solutions.

  • Accurate weighing, pipetting, dilution, mixing, and pH adjustment skills.

  • Ability to operate laboratory equipment including UV-Vis spectrophotometers, pH meters, balances, and pipettes.

  • Experience following written procedures and completing documentation accurately.

  • Knowledge of inventory management and production recordkeeping.

  • Ability to work safely with biological and chemical materials.

  • Experience supporting manufacturing, filling, labeling, packaging, or production activities.

  • Basic laboratory or manufacturing experience.

  • Basic math skills, including dilutions, concentrations, unit conversions, weights, and volumes.

  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.

  • Ability to read, understand, and follow written procedures.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience preparing laboratory reagents, buffers, dyes, and solutions in a production or laboratory setting.

  • Experience using laboratory instrumentation such as spectrophotometers, pH meters, balances, and pipettes.

  • Experience performing aseptic technique in laboratory or manufacturing environments.

  • Experience working in GMP/cGMP, GLP, ISO-regulated, cleanroom, or other controlled manufacturing environments.

  • Experience supporting production or manufacturing operations, including filling, labeling, and packaging.

  • Team-oriented approach with a collaborative mindset.

Work Environment

This role operates in a laboratory and controlled manufacturing environment focused on diagnostic and laboratory product formulation. You will routinely work with biological and chemical materials and must follow strict safety, quality, and operating procedures. The position involves frequent use of laboratory equipment such as UV-Vis spectrophotometers, pH meters, balances, and pipettes, as well as participation in filling, labeling, and packaging activities. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Eugene, OR.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
