Job summary

Prinova is seeking a Formulation Scientist II to independently plan and execute Solutions formulations from concept through commercialization in Carol Stream, IL. You will serve as the primary technical contact for customers and collaborate across functions to meet product development goals.

The role emphasizes project management, ECO handling, and active involvement in scale-up with the R&D lab, contributing to continuous improvement of formulations and processes.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Excel and Word for technical docs.
  • Experience reading and using work orders and technical specs.
  • Strong analytical and stoichiometric calculation skills.
  • Experience using wet lab equipment and lab scales.
  • Ability to manage small projects independently or with a team.

Formulation Scientist II

Department: R&D, Solutions

Location: Carol Stream, IL

Type: Full-time

Summary

The Formulation Scientist II independently plans, organizes, and executes Solutions formulation from concept through commercialization. This role serves as the primary technical contact for assigned customers, manages product development activities, and collaborates across functions to deliver customer and business objectives. The position operates with moderate autonomy and contributes to continues improvement of formulations, processes and customer relationships.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design formulations and create technical documents.
  • Will be responsible for managing technical communications and projects with assigned customers.
  • Work with the R&D sample lab on any scale up projects that they may have.
  • Be more involved with the internal day-to-day processes including ECOs and sub swaps.
  • Be able to travel to customer visits unsupervised.
  • Start to take on and lead key global customer accounts.
  • Be responsible for investigating any CAPAs/customer returns involving their formulations.
  • Be available to present to groups of people or be able to discuss R&D’s role in Solutions with new hires in Prinova.
  • Will complete other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Required Education and/or Experience
  • Either 5+ years experience at a blending company in a science related field OR
  • 2+ years experience in the fortification development industry in a science related field OR
  • 2+ years experience as a Formulation Scientist
  • BS/BA Degree – Food Science/Nutrition/Chemistry preferred (but at least a AS/AA in a science or mathematics field or Associates in a science field with experience)
  • Either have process flow and design experience or have production blending experience (both is preferred).
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Have a working understanding of Microsoft excel and word.
  • Have experience with reading and working with work orders and technical documentation.
  • Must have competence in analytical or mathematical calculations, especially those in stoichiometric and/or scale-up processes.
  • Be able to use wet chemical lab equipment including but not limited to lab scales.
  • Be able to manage small projects by themselves or with a team
Work Conditions & Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Ability to lift up to 10 lbs;
  • Work environment is normally in an office setting. Must be able to make frequent rounds in a warehouse/production environment;
  • Ability to view a computer screen and type for extended hours;
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time;
  • Other physical requirements include moderate standing and occasional squatting, bending, and twisting;
  • Ability to work around a variety of different smells and aromas;
  • Ability to adjust work schedule as business needs require.
