Job summary

AbbVie invites PhD-level students to join the Pharmaceutical Technology team within PDS&T to support late-stage formulation development for solid oral dosage forms. The internship focuses on excipient compatibility and chemical stability, working with formulation scientists and analytical chemists to define robust drug product formulations.

The internship offers collaboration with experienced professionals, exposure to LC/MS and HPLC analyses, and opportunities to present findings to leadership

Qualifications

• PhD candidate in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related.
• Enrolled in university for at least one semester after internship.
• Graduation date expected between December 2027 and June 2028.
• Strong attention to detail and laboratory safety practices.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a laboratory setting.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Investigate excipient degradation mechanisms with pH modifiers using analytical techniques (e.g., HPLC, titration, colorimetry).
• Collaborate on LC/MS analysis to identify leachable degradants affecting stabilization of drug substance.
• Evaluate degradation kinetics under varying temperature and humidity conditions.
• Assess potential mitigation strategies including formulation and process variables.
• Summarize experimental results and present findings to project team and department.
