Job summary

The NOW Hiring Heroes organization seeks an experienced Boatswain’s Mate (BM) with United States Navy experience to support deck operations, vessel handling, maintenance, and seamanship activities in a marine environment.

This role emphasizes hands-on line handling, small boat operations, rigging, and deck equipment maintenance, with a focus on safety, drills, and proactive readiness in varied weather and sea conditions.

Qualifications

• Prior service in the United States Navy (required)
• Experience as a Boatswain’s Mate (BM) or equivalent deck operations role
• Strong knowledge of seamanship, rigging, and deck operations
• Ability to work in physically demanding and outdoor environments

Responsibilities

• Perform line handling, mooring, anchoring, and towing operations
• Operate and maintain deck equipment (winches, capstans, cranes, rigging systems)
• Support safe vessel movement and docking procedures
• Operate small boats and assist with navigation and watchstanding duties
• Support crew during launch, recovery, and underway operations
• Perform routine maintenance including painting, corrosion control, deck preservation and cleaning, equipment inspections and upkeep
• Follow maritime safety procedures and participate in drills and emergency response activities
