Summary

The Material Handler loads, unloads, and moves materials within or near the center, cross dock, trailers, yard, or work site by performing the following duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Read work orders or follow oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved.
2. Receive items for shipment, inspect visually for identity, quantity, and condition. Check for damage and segregate items requiring special handling.
3. Open containers as directed by work instructions or supervisor.
4. Load and unload materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand or with forklift or other handling equipment.
5. Load materials into carrier vehicles and secure them with strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage during transit.
6. Complete receiving and shipping documents accurately and completely per ProTrans specifications using the scan gun.
7. Count, weigh, and record the number of units of materials moved or handled in the PTI System.
8. Ensure proper identification by marking and labeling shipments, including handling instructions.
9. Coordinate transportation requirements and handle any special handling issues. Gather data for reports.
10. Warehouse and store inbound and outbound cargo awaiting processing or onward movement. Stack or assemble materials into bundles and band them together as directed.
11. Lift heavy objects manually or with a power hoist, and perform daily safety and equipment checks.
12. Operate machinery such as banding, taping, and sealing equipment.
13. Follow all safety procedures and actively work to improve safety records.
14. Engage in continuous quality improvement initiatives to enhance performance.
