Position Summary

The Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all equipment used in the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) for transferring, sorting, and/or baling recycled materials. This includes operating multiple types of equipment such as forklifts, skid steers, recycling balers, and payloaders/excavators.

Key Responsibilities

• Assists in the maintenance of the Material Recovery Facility (MRF).
• Performs pre/post operation inspections of equipment following safety standards and regulations.
• Monitors recycled materials for unacceptable or hazardous waste.
• Inspects equipment condition regularly to ensure operational readiness and cleanliness.
• Operates equipment safely and maintains facility standards.
• Provides mechanical issue details to technicians for timely repairs.
• Participates in training and performs other duties to support company goals and values.

Career Path Definitions & Distinctions

Apprentice: Understands recycling processes, completes safety training, and exhibits understanding of policies and values.

Operator I: Operates equipment safely, completes safety checks, and demonstrates ability to operate multiple pieces of equipment.

Operator II: Develops communication skills, understands material acceptability, can operate three types of equipment, and works toward hoisting license.

Lead Operator: Fully understands recycling processes, operates all equipment, interacts effectively with stakeholders, trains others, and holds relevant hoisting licenses.

Education, Experience & Qualifications

Must be at least 18, able to work in various weather conditions, legally eligible to work in the US, with a team-oriented attitude, safety commitment, and good communication skills. Prior heavy equipment experience and certifications are preferred but not required.
