The forklift operator safely and efficiently loads, offloads, and stages materials as directed by client and supervisor. Operation of a forklift requires a commitment to safety, good comprehension skills, and the ability to constantly monitor a situation. Critical thinking and reasoning skills are a must. In addition to the operation of the forklift, the forklift operator must be able to perform routine maintenance as outlined by the company maintenance department.

Essential Job Functions
The forklift operator will:
- Display and encourage teamwork among employees and customers.
- Maintain positive working relationships with all employees and clients.
- Communicate effectively with peers, clients, and members of management.
- Perform safe lifting and travel necessary in the daily operations at the facility. This includes loading and unloading of pipe, chemicals, and other materials related to the oil industry; pre-staging of said equipment per instructions for loading on to the appropriate vessel; and general slip and storage organization and forklift maintenance.
- Conduct and document machine pre-use inspections as designated by the company Equipment Maintenance Program.
- Accurately complete all documents, such as timecards, pre-jobs, daily inspection reports, etc. on all functions of the forklift and report any breakdowns or faults that may occur immediately to the immediate supervisor.
- Perform rigging tasks when needed.
- Perform PM services on machines when due.
- Keep all areas of the forklift, including the cab area, clear of unwanted and unhygienic material.
- Keep the equipment cleaned, painted, and greased daily.
- Keep proper equipment and paperwork current.
- Maintain the slip and yard storage organizational system prescribed by the appropriate employer for the storage of materials at the facility to expedite load out.
- Assist with pre-slinging and the removal of the pre-slinging when necessary.
- Discuss and execute a safe and efficient method to load the trucks once a shipment has been arranged.
- Maintain the responsibility for designated equipment, not allowing anyone to operate equipment that has not been verified and approved by management.
- Constantly watch for anything that could make the previously stated duties unsafe for themselves or those around them.
QHSE Requirements
The forklift operator may:
- Actively participate in the company WISE program.
- Act as a mentor per company mentoring and SSE programs.
- Utilize Stop Work Authority when necessary.
- Adhere to and comply with company policies, OSHA, and environmental regulations.
- Abide by, convey, and enforce all safety rules, including the wear of PPE for themselves and others (including third-party personnel on site at the facility).
- Operate in the company management system (Unisea).
- Ensure compliance with the company's quality and HSE policies and goals, customer requirements, and regulatory and legal policies.
The forklift operator may be:
- Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions, electrical hazards, vibration noise, fumes, smoke, dust, gases, chemicals, and a variety of other physical conditions.
- Required to work alone or in congested areas.
- Required to perform work at an alternate location other than port facility.
- Subject to adverse weather conditions, including high winds, cold, and heat.
Physical Requirements
While performing job duties, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear; and taste and smell. The employee must occasionally lift or move over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities are required for the job, including close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
The forklift operator is required to complete an annual forklift operator physical.
Reports To
The forklift operator reports to the crane operator.
Job Requirements
