Job summary

Smurfit Westrock is seeking a reliable forklift operator to support shipping and warehousing operations. You will load/unload trailers, move finished goods, and ensure accurate location records in our system.

Qualifications

  • Read a tape measure with speed and accuracy.
  • Prior shipping forklift experience required.
  • Prior work experience in the corrugated box industry.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and care for forklifts in a safe manner.
  • Load and unload trailers, including sheet orders with or without pallets.
  • Move finished products from lines to storage and update locations in system.
  • Ensure correct quantity and proper securing bands and wrap on trailers.
  • Inspect forklift at start of shift and report needed repairs.
  • Maintain neat, safe stock stacks and accurate storage records.
  • Assist other forklift operators as needed and follow safety procedures.

  • Operate and care for the forklift in a safe manner
  • Load and unload trailers, including sheet orders with or without pallets
  • Take finished product from the unitizer line and store in proper locations in the shipping department; this includes the shipping line in the corrugator. Scan all units into proper locations
  • Check units and load tags for accuracy; report any problems to supervision as they occur
  • Complete and document a forklift inspection form before the start of the shift and when operating a new forklift; turn in maintenance work orders to supervision for needed repairs
  • Ensure that all units loaded on trailers for delivery have proper number of bands in proper locations, adequate cover sheets, adequate stretch wrap if necessary, and any other details which may affect the appearance or protection of the units
  • Locate stock before the start of the run
  • Deliver appropriate stock to appropriate machines
  • Remove finished goods from machines
  • Maintain, neat, orderly, and safe stacks of stock in storage areas
  • Maintain accurate location of stock ins storage area by paperwork/ computer
  • Transfer units manually in the computer
  • Look up history of unitized inventory
  • Hand unitize units as necessary
  • Hand wrap units together as necessary
  • Complete necessary paperwork in an accurate and timely manner
  • Assist other forklift operators as necessary
  • Follow LOTO procedure
  • Notify supervision of needed repairs
  • Regular and timely attendance required
  • JOB QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Able to read, speak, write and comprehend basic English.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Good physical condition, i.e. able to lift 25-50# on a consistent basis.
  • Read a tape measure with speed and accuracy.
  • Prior shipping forklift experience is required.
  • Prior work experience in the corrugated box industry.
