Job summary

Smurfit Westrock is seeking a Forklift Operator to load and unload materials, move items to storage areas, and support plant operations at the Atlanta facility. You will perform pre-shift inspections, maintain safety standards, and complete required paperwork.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, basic math skills, and the ability to follow safety rules and procedures. The role requires overtime as needed and active participation in safety programs.

Qualifications

• Must have ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
• Must have ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Must have ability to perform intermediate arithmetic dealing with decimals, fractions, ratios, etc.
• Must pass basic reading test.

Responsibilities

• Load/Unload trailers in a safe manner.
• Material grading.
• Placing processed material into inventory storage.
• Monitor bale weights.
• Complete all appropriate paperwork.
• Perform pre-shift forklift inspection.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance.
• Maintains a basic knowledge of operations and procedures in all production departments.
• Maintain safe and clean work environment.
• Completes all assigned trainings.
• Active participant in the Health and Safety programs of WestRock.
• Performs other job duties as needed.

GENERAL PURPOSE

The forklift Operator is responsible for operating and managing industrial trucks to load and unload materials and deliveries and move them to and from storage areas, machines and loading docks, into railroad cars or trucks or storage areas. They are responsible for all activities associated with safely operating and caring for the forklift and the proper operation of the forklift at our facility in addition to participating in cross training efforts for specific plant needs and sharing those duties with other drivers. Duties include the completion of all required quality tests and inspections and notifying supervisors of any observed concerns in the production area related to either product handled or the safety of the facility.
