Job summary

Smurfit Westrock in Hicksville, NY is seeking a Material Handler - Forklift to support efficient material flow. You will issue raw materials to designated workstations, move work in process, and manage waste separation for proper disposal.

This role requires forklift certification and warehouse experience. Responsibilities include staging, loading, shipping coordination, and maintaining safety procedures while supporting warehouse operations.

Qualifications

• Prior warehouse experience preferred.
• Must have or be able to obtain a forklift license.
• Knowledge of safety rules and operating policies.
• Basic computer knowledge (data entry).
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic (add/subtract/multiply/divide).
• Team environment, effective communication, adaptability, and reliability required.
• Good attendance and willingness to work overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

• Stage trays, cages, pallets, cartons, dollies, skids, and containers as required.
• Manage chipboard, dollies, and skids; move materials between areas.
• Empty waste containers in each process area.
• Separate and discard corrugated, printed material, and waste properly.
• Band and wrap materials for shipment; assist with outbound shipments.
• Interface with truckers; ensure documentation and samples accompany shipments.
• Back-up for shipping, receiving and warehousing duties.

Material Handler - Forklift

Essential Job Functions

• Stages trays, cages, pallets, cartons, dollies, skids, cut material, folded material and waste containers as required.
• Manages chipboard on and off of dollies and skids.
• Empties waste containers in each process area.
• Separates and properly discards corrugated, printed material, miscellaneous garbage.
• Performs banding, stretch wrapping etc. of materials for shipment.
• Delivers shipments to various departments.
• Interfaces with truckers for outbound shipments, ensures all necessary documentation and samples are properly secured with outgoing shipments.
• Acts as a back-up for shipping, receiving and warehousing.
• Follows all standard operating procedures relevant to the job, position and department.
• Follows established policies, work instructions and safety and environmental guidelines.
• Records production information such as amount of time spent on specific tasks.
• Performs all assigned work effectively and on schedule.
• Follows instructions accurately.
• Keeps work area neat and clean.
• Performs all other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Prior warehouse experience is preferred.
• Must have or able to obtain a fork lift license.
• Must demonstrate knowledge of or ability learn safety rules and procedures and operating policies and procedures.
• Must demonstrate basic computer knowledge (data entry).
• Must have the ability to perform basic arithmetic including additions, subtraction, multiplication and division.

• Must be able to communicate effectively with others.
• Must be able to learn quickly and adapt to change.
• Must possess the following competencies: accuracy, reliability, decision making, time management and self motivation.
• Must be able to maintain good attendance.
• Must be willing to work overtime as needed; significant overtime may be required during busy periods.
