Qualifications

  • High school diploma is required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in machine repair or maintenance.
  • Knowledge of electrical, hydraulic and control systems, and welding.
  • Understand safe equipment practices and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Familiar with hazardous waste and hazardous material handling procedures.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on forklifts and material handling equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic system issues.
  • Repair or replace engines, transmissions, brakes, steering and hydraulic components.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance according to manufacturer specs.
  • Complete safety inspections and ensure compliance with standards.
  • Maintain service records, logs, and parts inventory documentation.
  • Respond to breakdowns and perform emergency repairs as needed.
  • Order and manage replacement parts and supplies.
  • Operate diagnostic tools and testing equipment to identify problems.
  • Follow OSHA and company safety policies and procedures.
  • Provide recommendations for equipment replacement or major repairs.

Job Summary

The Forklift Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining forklifts and other material handling equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. This role requires strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, knowledge of hydraulic systems, and a commitment to workplace safety.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on electric, propane, diesel, and gasoline-powered forklifts.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic system issues.
  • Repair or replace defective components, including engines, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, and hydraulic equipment.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Troubleshoot battery systems, chargers, and electrical controls on electric forklifts.
  • Complete safety inspections and ensure equipment complies with company and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain accurate service records, repair logs, and parts inventory documentation.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and perform emergency repairs as needed.
  • Order and manage replacement parts and supplies.
  • Operate diagnostic tools and testing equipment to identify problems.
  • Follow all OSHA and company safety policies and procedures.
  • Provide recommendations for equipment replacement or major repairs.

Qualification

  • Working knowledge of safe equipment practices and applicable laws, rules, and regulations
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of hazardous waste and hazardous material handling procedures and practices
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
