Tyson Foods in Columbus Junction, IA is seeking a forklift operator to move palletized loads and shipments within the facility. The role involves operating a forklift, opening and closing doors between storage areas, and ensuring safe handling of meat and related products.
The position requires standing and walking, with occasional lifting of pallets up to 33 pounds and reaching tasks up to shoulder height. Tyson emphasizes equal opportunity employment and a comprehensive benefits package.
This employee is responsible for operating fork trucks to move pallets and combos of product, as well as shuttling various supplies into and out of storage. The operation of the forklift and the opening and closing of loading bay and freight elevator doors to access loads require both sitting and standing postures throughout the day.
Forklift operators move palletized loads, fork-fitted containers, or cardboard combos on plastic sheeting. A wide-forked forklift equipped with a scissor-armed vise bar grabs one side of the sheeting and pulls the combo off the pallet on which it was filled with meat and manifested. This requires a certain degree of operator finesse and may occasionally require the team member to step down, straighten and raise the edge of the plastic sheet by hand, and make a second grasping attempt with the forklift.
