Job summary

Owens Corning in Winchester, VA is seeking a forklift operator to move and stage materials within the facility. You will read shipping schedules, stage for shipping, and ensure safe forklift operation following all safety rules.

The role requires the ability to lift 50+ lbs, pass background checks, and adapt to overtime and extended hours as needed. Pay starts at $21.00 per hour with a $2.00 shift premium for the Winchester location.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED required.
• Preferably 1 year experience in manufacturing.
• Able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Reads shipping schedules and stacks items for shipping.
• Operates forklift and performs pre-shift safety inspection.
• Consolidates orders and ships items correctly to customers.
• Pulls production wrap lines as needed and maintains space for safety.
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment and follow SOPs.

Overview

To transport product adequately and efficiently, raw materials, etc. from location to location within the manufacturing facility. Ensure all product is transported in a safe manner. Employees are cooperative and willing to apply their skills in a variety of venues by rotating positions as needed to achieve success.

What you will need:

• Preferably one year experience in manufacturing setting
• HS Diploma or GED preferred
• Able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen

What you will do:

• Reads/interprets shipping schedules, stages doors, sorts by length, width, customer, core type to create correct stacks for shipping
• Stages for shipping once wrapped
• Conduct pre-shift inspection of the forklift to ensure safety and operational compliance
• Fuel forklifts as required
• Provide safe operation of forklift throughout the facility. Abide by all safety rules and regulations required with forklift operation.
• Pull all production wrap lines as required
• Consolidate all orders for shipping
• Receive items into the facility/Ships all items correct to the customer
• Pay attention to detail when pulling items from Warehouse based on work order
• Must be able to work extended hours and overtime as needed both daily and on weekends if business need requires
• Replace pallets/runners as necessary to maintain a safe working environment
• Must understand all shipping documents in order to understand the space required for product
• Will also perform other related duties as assigned, which may not be specifically listed in the job description
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field
• Self-driven, accountable, high integrity, open communicator, strong work ethic
• Required to mount and dismount forklift multiple times per day
• Forklift knowledge and safety procedures
• Ability to work independently and effectively in a team environment
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English sufficiently to perform the essential functions of the position safely and effectively.

• Ability to organize and maintain detailed records
• Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and have ability to multi-task
• Desirable (but not required): Intermediate computer skills in programs such such as MS Word, MS Excel and Outlook, with fast and accurate data entry skills
• Ability to lift to 50+ lbs.
• Regular attendance and timeliness is an essential function of the job in order to avoid having any disruptions in production and customer service
