Job summary

Continental in Sumter, SC is seeking an experienced machinist to operate lathes, milling machines and grinders to produce precision parts. You will read blueprints, set up tools, determine feeds and speeds, and ensure parts meet exact specs through meticulous measurement and inspection.

You will collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams, perform routine machine maintenance, and uphold safety and quality standards in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• AAS or HS diploma with craft apprenticeship.
• Experience with AutoCAD, HAAS, SolidWorks, and Mastercam and willingness to learn.
• 3+ years of machining experience; ability to read blueprints and schematics.
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S. and no visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Operate machine tools (lathes, milling machines, grinders) to produce precision parts.
• Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and work orders.
• Calculate dimensions, tolerances, and positioning using micrometers, Vernier calipers, and math skills.
• Determine proper feeds, speeds, and material removal for cutting and finishing operations.
• Set up machines, select tools and materials, and regulate temperature and vibration for quality output.
• Perform routine maintenance, tool sharpening, and adjustments to ensure optimal machine performance.
• Maintain accurate job and attendance records.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, and other departments.
• Follow all safety, environmental, and plant policies; forklift certification required.
• Keep workspace clean and organized while maintaining equipment in top condition.
• Other Duties as Assigned – Support additional maintenance and operational tasks as required.
