Job summary

Pursuit Aerospace seeks a Forge Operator for Whitesboro, NY. This full-time role supports forge operations, reads blueprints, sets up die assemblies, and maintains heat and quality during the forging cycle.

You will heat, forge and trim parts, monitor dies, and collaborate with a crew as needed. Strong attention to detail and safety are essential; prior forge experience is preferred. Benefits included.

The Forge Operator position is responsible forfor supporting the forge operations and all quality procedures.

Location: Whitesboro, NY (Onsite)

Responsibilities:

  • Work from blueprints and tooling layouts to set-up (assembly, align and adjust) die sets involving multiple components. Adjust strokes and clearances, clean-up dies and make periodical adjustments to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Jog press to check clearances. Maintain heat in dies prior to and during all operational periods. Preheat dies as prescribed.
  • Use induction heating unit to obtain heated pieces for forging. May be manual load or hopper feed. Check Tocco unit during operation sequence for proper heat and operation.
  • Usually works individually to heat, forge and trim parts. May work in conjunction with one or more assistants as a “crew”. In such situations, acts as leader of the crew.
  • Observe and maintain furnace heat. Maintain heat in dies if appropriate. Make necessary adjustments to induction unit controls and minor adjustments to auxiliary equipment as needed.
  • Tong material from heating unit to die cavity or receive from automatic transfer feed - trip the ram release to complete the forging cycle, trim the part when applicable and place in chute or container.
  • Close attentiveness to details concerning material conditions, lubrication of dies and personal safety must be maintained during short forging cycle.
  • Make minor touch up on dies using abrasive strips and small air guns. Major die work requires assistance from die polishers.
  • Frequently check forged parts for form, finish, dimensional accuracy and forging defects.
  • Handle large wrenches and heavy tooling with assistance.
  • Periodically move, or assist in moving, large loaded tubs and other containers and replace with empty containers, which as of such weight to require the use of a mechanically equipped dolly.

Exposure to moving mechanical parts, electrical equipment, acetone, alcohol, argon, braze alloys, nitrogen, hydrogen, oil based lubricants and cleaning solutions; occasionally exposure to moderate cold and extreme heat; noise level in the work environment is usually middling.

Physical Demands:

Regularly required to use hands; ability to communicate verbally and have the ability to hear; required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop or crouch; occasionally required to sit; must regularly lift and/or move up to sixty (60) pounds; vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
